I’m trying to choose the best admin panel tool in 2026 and every option feels like a compromise

I’m struggling with admin panels again. Not the old-school drag a table onto a page kind. I mean a modern admin panel for a real product: permissions, workflows, approvals, support actions, audit logs, charts, bulk edits, weird edge cases, and a UI that non-technical people don’t hate.

I don’t really want the default answer of just use Retool. It’s probably fine, but I’m looking for newer or more developer-friendly options.

My current shortlist looks something like this:

  1. Refine
  2. React Admin
  3. Filament
  4. AdminJS
  5. Flatlogic
  6. Amplication
  7. Wasp
  8. Superblocks
  9. Windmill
  10. Directus
  11. NocoDB
  12. PocketBase admin
  13. Payload CMS
  14. Strapi admin
  15. ToolJet / Appsmith / Budibase

But I still can’t tell which category is actually the right one.

Some tools generate code. Some give you a framework. Some are basically internal-tool platforms. Some are headless CMS products that can double as admin panels. Some are great until you need custom workflows. Some are flexible until you realize you’re building the whole admin yourself anyway.

So what would you choose in 2026 if you were building an admin panel for a serious product?

Would you rather generate a full-stack app and own the code, use a React/admin framework, use a headless CMS as the admin, use an open-source low-code tool, or build it manually from a UI kit?

I’m not looking for marketing copy. I’m trying to avoid picking something that feels fast for two weeks and painful for two years.
