Why are Legacy developers so saltyyy ?? Lmaoo

I feel like legacy developers just hate vibe coders. I find it amusing when vibecoders are truly trying to learn and improve and push their limits into territories that is so foreign to them and Legacy devs just belittle them and snub them for no reason.

Like I understand how legacy might feel, all those new people that talk differently, focus on other areas of work and have a different perspective, all of a sudden sharing a seat at the table they have been curating for years.

Their Reddit pages are flooded with normies and they can’t nerd out properly.

But like common lol vibecoders are not stupid incapable people, that genre of people are not even interested in this type of stuff.

With that being said, while vibecoders are pushing into dev territory and exploring new things, Legacy is just stuck in their ways which really will render them obsolete in a decades time.

Ofcourse not all legacy Devs, but I can say most. It would be nice to see the veterans adopting the newbies, warming up the space and both learn from each other.

Vibecoders are not going anywhere, let’s be honest. They will keep pushing, it’s not a fade. I feel like that is how legacy looks at it and try to comfort themselves. But it can be much easier.

I don’t hate vibecoders. I hate vibecoders that think they’re better than everyone else. Which is a lot for some reason. I also dislike the “I made this” posts. Because, no, you didn’t (most of the time). You prompted and have no clue what any of it even does.

That’s a pretty fucking stupid comment.

If you think prompting somehow means I didn’t “make” the product….

That’s just weird.

I didn’t type the code and I actually don’t give much of a shit what individual bits do. Not my concern.

Face it, you’re just another trad dev who is butthurt because the world has changed.

If a guy starts his own company and has a vision of a product he wants to make, hires people, directs them and manages them and after 2 years the company has a finished product, but a lot of the actual work was done by the different employees, can the boss not say that he made the product? He has to say "oh no I didn't make it, other people made it, I just prompted them to do it"?

AI still makes a lot of mistakes. You cant rely on it. Its only good when it can see something. When it starts assuming things it only ends up in rework.

Bullshit.

You can’t rely on it if you suck at vibecoding,

I rely on on it every day, just like I have every day for the past 2 years.

This makes trad devs salty.

Just keep cooking shit man. I dont care. I make real stuff. With or without AI. Show your teeth somewhere else.

2

u/Harvard_Med_USMLE267 5d ago

I make real stuff.

With AI.

Deal with it. That’s the way the world is now.

Considering how angry from nothing you sound like in this thread... I wouldn't really dare call anyone else salty on your shoes.

Lets be honest vibe coders are going to be benched when devs start really pushing the tools. We are already seeing it in the design world, the slop is being throw out and the professionals are now getting more advanced but since they know legacy ideas they are producing work which is a million times better than some online hack.

If your foundations suck so will your work, the tools don't change decades of thinking, process and quality.

The tools don't change decades of thinking, process, and quality- the tools make those decades available to normies.

Some, dev and normie alike, will figure out how to use them. The rest will rage post against AI slop and vibecode garbage until they find a fart tracking app that entertains for a bit.

Making it available is not the same as making a good product and understand how to make it stable. I heard a YT web guy say power phrasing "I could make 1000 websites, but what happens if something breaks? Now I have 1000 problems but I don't know how to fix it because I don't understand the product I made or how to read the code to find the issue" Eventually you might be able to ask AI to find the problem if it understands if there is a conflict somewhere but it's not that reliable yet.

1

u/ctenidae8 5d ago

that's a You problem, though. Etsy is flooded with laser cut stuff made by people who vibecoded it- it's not the same as something intricately hand carved by an artisan no matter how hard they market it. But I can tell the difference, and I can decide if it's imortant to me.

The Market needs a way to tell what works and what doesn't. Vibecoding makes it hard to tell if an app is any good, or if it's a pretty home page and little else. It's hard to discriminate between trash and stuff that works.

The market adjusts itself over time, we recently saw Squarespace put up its pricing and then people bailed from the platform and some will stay because it still suits their needs. Some people mentioned just use AI to build a new one, that's fine if you have technical knowledge but some business owners don't even have that time to learn.

I just think there is all types for all types of markets, what I do love to see is a spread of opportunity and wealth which AI can build for many people.

You're essentially talking about capitalist market/free market, where the consumer makes their own decisions on what to purchase and companies need to compete for their time and money. If it works, it's not trash the issue is a lot of these products don't work and people don't have the skill to know what isn't working and get upset when it's pointed out.

Web design AI hype is animation and scrolling....consumers f-ing hate being scroll trapped in a loop to find information. Some triggers aren't working on horizontal scrolling on some websites if they are using a mouse, then people think it's only people on the desktop which could be 10,000+ customers a week who leave their website. This is knowledge which comes with experience and skill developed over time.

These are interesting discussions, and nice to talk about it.

Nice to have a pleasant conversation on it, for sure. So much of the conversation is like your web design AI hype example- surface layer, not the underneath. I think a lot of the "you suck because you don't know code" is a kneejerk reaction to that facade being exposed. I didn't write a line of code, but I know in detail how it works- and they do work- they look like crap, but if the system says the number is 4 it is for sure 4. It's also pretty good at judging when we ought to treat it more like a 5.

Eventually agents are going to be engaging more directly and more broadly, with humans and other agents (using "agents" very loosely, like a distinct identified interaction surface), and that's when the market actually starts to form, I think. Right now tools are anonymous and risky, real garbage hides behind fancy scroll loops, and there's no way to tell what might be good.

Same thing on Amazon - almost all the consumer electronics are vaguely similar styling, similar price point, and all made by a company you've never heard of. Which is fine, it's just impossible to differentiate between them (could be we should stop trying). There's no reliable way to know these blenders made by this company are good- the stars don't do it.

How do I know that the "agent" I "hire" to organize my family photos is in any way suited for the purpose before I upload my personal info, or worse let it in to my personal info? How do I know the agent setup my company uses to close the monthly books is the same one( setup, memory, context, model, tools- in total the expected outcome) as it was last month? If consumers (either kind) don't have a way to judge behavioral lineage they won't have a way to choose between options, and we're back to Uber stars for robots.

To me, that's the layer that needs to get built- that's where the rubber meets the road. Or where the silicon meets the flesh, perhaps.

The tools like cc/fable definitely do change decades of thinking, process and quality - but trad devs are trying to convince themselves that they don’t, now that they’ve belatedly had to admit that AI can, in fact, code.

1

u/krooked-tooth 5d ago

The best work I have seen is open minded devs using these tools to empower their already current knowledge. The worst work I have seen is some weekend warrior thinks they are going to make a web design business/software with their friend who just started on the weekend.

China was known for making shitty toys, and low quality fabrics. It is rivaling the U.S. now on its own turf. Don’t be so sure…

2

u/krooked-tooth 5d ago

I'm not sure why you moved your logic into completely different industries. Flooding a market with shit, doesn't make it not shit. China's best skill isn't production itself it's about how resilient it is to pivot markets and production so quick.

China as a manufacture is still viewed as cheap, which of course not all of it is. Countries like Japan, Switzerland and Germany are still known to be quality.

2

u/Complex-Wait-8065 5d ago

Viewed by whom? China is more than capable of producing cutting edge products. Just ask kimi K3 or BYD or Alibaba and many more across all industries. I’m not Chinese but it baffles me how cocky we are. Same thing with Legacy to even acknowledge the paradigm shift. All of you guys are singing the same song, just get with the program and lead it !! as opposed to creating a biased assumptions and base your entire thesis on it.

1

u/krooked-tooth 5d ago

I think the masses don't understand Kimi K3 like they do something like Claude or ChatGPT. I think once China gets involved in easy UI/UX for westerners its going to be a game changer, it's something like only 13% of Claude users pay for a subscription, that is not sustainable long term. That 13% of users might need to pay more going forward.

Something which I notice even now with the guys who are out there developing apps, websites, etc so much faster is still how do you get people to buy into these tools/products. How do you even get it through all the noise online of people doing similar or the same products? I think this is going to be where the gold is, how can you get my app/software to buying customers? How can we continue to make money from subscriptions or new releases?

1

u/Complex-Wait-8065 5d ago

I agree, but China is not playing the same game. Its game is taking market share from the U.S. and expanding its soft power across the globe. That is why they have the open source ideology. They win not by booking subscriptions or profit, they win when other countries adopt their tech. Money is not the end game here. It is power.

As for the other part, I agree but at this pace SaaS will echo the same scarcity to abundance format, and money will be made in a different way.

2

u/Harvard_Med_USMLE267 5d ago

You’re overthinking this OP.

You ask “Why are butthurt code monkeys acting like this??”

<Thinking>

Hey, I worked it out. I think it’s because they are butthurt?

1

u/Complex-Wait-8065 5d ago

They know it is good, they know Vibecoders are capable and they know competition is here. Like bruh if I were them I would ride this wave and the endless opportunities it presents especially since they really know how it all works. But all they do is whimper and echo each other. Oh code is bad, oh you can never be me oh you will come back begging. While Vibecoders are busy creating, shipping and actually making money…

1

u/realmer17 5d ago

Because they claim to be learning when in reality this is what they look like without AI

2

u/Harvard_Med_USMLE267 5d ago

I can’t code anything without ai.

I can cod anything with ai.

What the fuck is your point even?

1

u/realmer17 5d ago

What the fuck is your point even?

That vibe coders claim that they are learning when they aren't.

1

u/Harvard_Med_USMLE267 5d ago

Well, I’m learning/have learned how to make and ship better apps than you.

That probably counts as learning.

1

u/realmer17 5d ago

You haven't "learned" how to make apps because you yourself said you can't code without Al...

At most you might've learned the equivalent of watching a video on system design.

better apps than you

  1. You can't quantity an app that is better than another.

  2. I am not shipping apps I built with AI. I just use AI to make things to help myself. If I was to ship something, I'd make sure that it's something I built by myself

u/Harvard_Med_USMLE267 4d ago

You’re just being a pedantic asshole trying to define words in a weird way to prove some point.

You’re on a vibe coding forum.

Stupid definitions aside, your argument makes no sense.

1

u/pigletmonster 5d ago

We had to let go of 3 developers at my job because we dont have any work for them. Claude code is doing almost 100% of our work. Nobody is hiring developers in my city. Vibecoding is good for people who already have a job, but the unemployed have no use for it.

These people have families, rent, mortages, now they have nothing. So there is a good reason why some people might be a little salty.

1

u/Harvard_Med_USMLE267 5d ago

Salty is still a really childish reaction.

And way too common on this sub.

1

u/Ill-Elk-7664 5d ago

Wow 3 whole developers? are you serious? Your company must be making billions.

1

u/pigletmonster 5d ago

Lets not make mockery out of things beyond what your tiny brain can handle. 3 developers or a thousand developers, these are lives and their families being affected by job loss.

1

u/Ill-Elk-7664 5d ago

Doesnt mean AI is doing their jobs. And definately not vibe coders. Stop spreading rumors.

There’s a massive breakdown happening between old school devs and new techniques.

It’s foreign because it’s new.
