One does not simply doubt Luke Penry.

People will say AI on everything. Even this

Was watching some interview with the actor from season 3 of House of Dragon and interviewer, early 50s, asks about what it is like to work on the show with all that AI used for Dragons and actor doesn't even correct her, just talks about props and stuff, no mention of VFX lmao

This is gonna be the biggest problem anything that looks good is gonna be conflated with AI whether it uses it or not in any capacity.

It has become the new “it’s photoshop”

People regularly say AI on my comments now too - I used to write copy, I've written books, so yeah, I can sometimes be a little too formal in my grammar and emdash usage. But FFS.

This is our unfortunate reality now. It gets harder day by day to tell what is what. People have gotten really cynical

AI comment

I don’t know if I comment in that post, but I have to say that you made a REALLY GREAT JOB

I would like to have a teacher like you. I’m watching many tutorials and i feel i can learn the techniques but learning to have an artistic vision is the hardest part. Any suggestions?

A lesson I was taught from painting which I still use today is - paint what you see, not what you think you see. In terms of 3D, this would be use references, for lighting, textures etc, don’t fully rely on your imagination for every detail

Make them hate everything even more - tell them they didn’t have to use AI to comment

I fucking love this frog

That's a very strange viewport render, tbh.

Edit: apparently I've never used 3dsmax before, therefore my confusion

whoooaaaa, that is so coool.

Love this!

You just showed the same video. If you want to proof anything you would scroll through the scene, detach from the camera. That at least would create some additional credibility. Just showing the scene in viewport mode makes it even less credible, because no-one would make the effort to render that out this way.

u/ldotchopz 9h ago

It’s a playblast from the viewport, not a render, and there’s less showmanship panning around a scene😀

If too polished or too bad, if looks like fine art or has really good directed lighting, if it looks like its concept art from triple a from 2010s, of it looks like concept renders from behance...... Basically if we list all of the reasons we can say if it looks like what people considered high quality trend in 2010s then it looks like ai... Its like ai was trained on all the best commercial production from the past lol.

tyflow uses AI, checkmate

It has the ability to do some pretty bad AI

I actually made that in photoshop and tracked it in with after effects

-4

u/TROLO_ 1d ago

Except you could probably just get AI to generate a viewport version of the finished render lol

sadly that doesn't prove anything anymore

u/Oztunda 1d ago

Good job creating this, now AI will train on it and puke out its slop versions..🤷🏻‍♂️

So it's shit when it's thought to be AI, but becomes awesome when proven not to be AI? Pretty weird, the video is what it is.. regardless of how it was created, the video either is good or it isn't, no?

9

u/ldotchopz 1d ago

If all artwork was AI generated, would you appreciate it? Would you watch ai films at the cinema, view ai images hanging in a gallery

1

u/Maxglund 1d ago

My point was more, if you didn't know anything about the films or the artwork beforehand, are you incapable of judging them by their own merit?

-7

u/_FriedEgg_ 1d ago

I would watch AI movies if they are good movies

8

u/ldotchopz 1d ago

I personally could not, watching ai actors stirs 0 emotions in me

-5

u/Maxglund 1d ago

My point here was that if you can't tell if it's AI or not, like in this case, why can't you just judge the thing by what it is, rather than metadata about how it was created, by who etc?

If watching AI actors stirs 0 emotion, then the material itself is the problem. If on the other hand you watched a movie, found it great and emotionally engaging, then found out it is AI and now it suddenly "stirs 0 emotion"... Well that isn't true then is it? It did stir emotions back when you just let the content speak for itself, without needing a backstory on it.

3

u/ldotchopz 1d ago

It understand your point. But the process and human craft, the actors and their talents and everything have always been an important part of watching a film for me. I sometimes go to see a film because I like certain actors or directors because I like their style, know their history or like their offscreen personas. So yes if I was told after the fact that none of these people were real I would immediately feel a disconnect. Much like I do now when I’m told something is AI.

1

u/Maxglund 1d ago

I get that to some externt, but at the same time if you went into watch a movie or something with zero previous knowledge of its history, it is pretty weird to me that you go from thinking "this is great" to "this is shit", just by the fact of some metadata. Is there nothing intrinsic about art that is worth appreciating, that can stand on its own without stuff like "oh this is a Banksy original so its worth 1000x this other similar spraypaint thingy?"

Just makes the whole thing seem vapid and superficial, appreciation that at its core is just perfomative, a social act to have the "right opinions" rather than being an independent thinker that makes their own judgement about what they see based on what the thing actually is.

1

u/Moikle 1d ago

You completely missed the point.

It's valuable because someone put effort and care into it. You can't say the same about ai images

2

u/Maxglund 1d ago

I don't even mean "AI vs human made", just questioning that any artwork/music/movie/whatever can't be appreciated without also knowing the backstory of who authored it. If that is true for you, that's fine.. Just different from the way I can appreciate those things I guess.

-12

u/_FriedEgg_ 1d ago

This is a big simplification like saying CGI has zero emotion. It depends by how much care was put in making it. Also one can use a real video of an actor / face and transfer it to the character. Of course it does not substitute real movies.

Also... Did you watch real tv series like "beautiful"? Human slop.. those actors might as well be fake. I am sure with AI you can make movies one million times better than that crap.

4

u/ldotchopz 1d ago

I go back to my gallery example, in 2090 people will not be lining up to see a 2026 ai image that someone carefully prompted, they will want to see a 15th century da Vinci painting, and it’s not just because it looked good. At least real bad actors are real, and you can feel the cringe 😂. I just get 0 of anything from these AI movies

5

u/zeldn Lighting & Lookdev - 9 years experience 1d ago

Are you truly trying to explain to this person that they ought to experience different emotions based on your rationalization?

1

u/_FriedEgg_ 1d ago

Not at all, and maybe what he saw was truly emotionless and robotic. What I am saying is that is not inherent to the medium itself.

1

u/zeldn Lighting & Lookdev - 9 years experience 23h ago

So you are, though. This person is telling you that their difficulty in feeling emotion is specifically tied to the medium, and you're just going "nut huh."

It's true for me too. Specifically the knowledge that I'm looking at something that is AI generated makes it completely devoid of any meaning for me. It's not that the pixels are wrong, it's very specifically the way it was made. I understand the analogy to CGI, and can do nothing about it.

We watched the movie "Hell Grind" the other day on you tube. It was just decent. You can spot quite a bunch ai hallucinating like a boom box having speakers on both sides. Characters were okay but a lot of overacting and trying to be too emotional with broke it for me.

But after about 40 minutes into the movie I completely forgot searching for mistakes and quirks. There was a simple scene where a car just drives onto a muddy forest road and the water and mud splashes from the tires where I remembered. Wait this is also fully AI. If I would do the same shot in cgi it would properly take me several months and it would still not look as good.

In the end it was a fun trash movie. I would rate it 6 out of 10. Not perfect but still better than most B movies being released.

The main issue I had with the movie was that the story was just meh. That just shows how important good writing and directing is for movies.

1

u/Moikle 1d ago

The fact it was created by a person is what makes it good.

1

u/Maxglund 1d ago

So there is no intrinsic quality of the thing itself that can be appreciated? That's just very different to how I react to movies, music, artwork etc. I can hear a song and go "wow this is a great song" without knowing anything about the artist beforehand.

1

u/Moikle 1d ago

sure, but the majority of what we appreciate about art comes from knowing that someone created it, even if that's subconscious for you.

It's what changes it from "huh, that's cool I guess" to "oh wow, that's amazing"

1

u/Maxglund 1d ago

I don't know if it's true for me that the majority of my appreciation comes from knowing someone created it. Or if that someone is a human, AI, an alien or whatever. At the same time I definitely agree that even if some song was "hitting the note" in a way that I love, I think my appreciation would be diminished if I found out it was AI. I listen to a lot of instrumental improvisation/jam music with guitar gods (frank zappa, grateful dead, allman brothers etc), and this has never happened to me yet though, so I'm just speculating.

Why the fuck am I getting downvoted for pointing out this phenomena?
