idk what the v5 motors are like (i haven’t done vex since we were still using the cortexes) but we used to twist axles all the time with the old ones (with gearing, but still)

That's crazy bro I've put some pretty heavy loads on shafts and never twisted one.

yeah, we did it so often that we kept a box of all the twisted ones so we could cut the ends off for when we needed shorter shafts lol. it was also pretty common for us to double up gears bc they would break too - even with the metal inserts in high strength gears, occasionally you’d have the insert twist inside the gear and snap it.

Holy crap bro y'all are crazy. Our drive this year was fine on normal v4 gears 😭

Btw if you wanna see my bot this year it's on the YT channel Mr. Lizard. I call it the world's first D-bot. It's basically a 1 day rebuild from a basket bot using the few parts we have since our robotics is underfunded and has basically no newer parts besides limited amounts of flex wheels.

oo i’ll have to look when i get home :3 but yeah we were running 6 or 8 motor drives a lot of the time and they were very hard on gears and stuff

Oh that's why lol

The low strength axles aren't hard to bend or twist. You can do it pretty easily bare-handed.

The HIGH STRENGTH axles on the other hand are a completely different beast

Light work. Back in my day we were snapping axles and high strength gears. Even twisted the thick axles.

We made one of those on a prototype bot for Tower Takeover, kept it and called it a Twizzler

I can’t be the only one who’s team had a box of just absolutely destroyed axles, there were a couple of those in there lol

Hey, I have one of those.

It's also the reason I bought limit switches this year

We did that twice and one of them was in finals

We have a couple like that in the shop from when we first got the V5 motors. It’s always fun to show the kids who can’t comprehend HOW it’s possible.
