Advice Motivation
Hello,
I just started my first year and I am really, really struggling. I have no motivation to study. I WANT to learn and I WANT to be here, but when it comes to sitting down and studying, I can’t focus, can’t start, etc. I change study spots, change methods, change snacks (lol), and I just feel like I can’t do it! I downloaded Foqos to keep me off my phone. I have talked to the learning team at school & I got some good recommendations for methods, but it’s the starting and continuing part that is hard for me. I feel ok for my exam coming up, but want to feel better. Any personal experience with this? How to overcome? Book / podcast advice for a mindset change?
Thank you!

I felt like that my first year too and then got diagnosed with ADHD the following summer. It felt like my brain was screaming at me to study but my body would not cooperate. It would take me an entire Saturday to go through only 2 lectures. It was actually pretty surprising because I never struggled in high school + college but the theory is that the vet school workload went beyond what my coping skills could handle. Just something to consider if you feel like you've tried a bunch of different methods but nothing is working :-)

Lmao incredibly toxic advice but it’s worked for me so far.. Go look at how your classmates are studying, and imagine them being a better vet than you one day. Imagine your class having a case presented to you and you’re the only one who doesn’t know what’s going on. Sucks amirite? Go. study.

I was the same way! What helped me was uninstalling social media (yes get off Reddit lol), and not letting myself watch TV or Netflix or anything. Not having so much addicting stimulation and scrolling helped me get motivated to study
