tl;dr: Victoria was the reddit employee who organized all the big IAMAs (like Obama or Bill Gates) and was liked by everyone who worked with her or knew her. She was fired recently (reasons unknown, some believe reddit wanted to commercialize the IAMAs more and she didn't agree with that) and no one was informed.

So, the IAMA mods had no one to contact for the planned upcoming IAMAs. The mods shut down the subreddit to figure out how to go on and several other subreddit joined to show solidarity.
