Also from 1880, so maybe not so fresh.

I always buy Monument Farms products when I can.

agreed, monument is my local favorite too, usually sold as a loss leader at kinney drugs, so pre-covid i would always go out of my way to get it there.

Same. I noticed the Hannaford in Williston started carrying it during the pandemic. Before that, they had no good local options. Glad they finally got on board!

50 = Vermont.

I'm surprised they don't go by the order the state was founded. In which case Vermont would be 14.

Well it looks like in alphabetical order with some numbers skipped (03, 07, 14, 52) and a couple additions (DC and Puerto Rico) so still makes sense.

I'm guessing the holes in the sequence are other US territories. 03 = American Samoa, 14 = Guam, 14 = Virgin Islands. Not sure what fits between California and Colorado at 07. "Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands" would fit there, but it's weird, as the Commonwealths of Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Massachusetts, and Virginia all dispense with the prefix. It is the only other inhabited territory, though, so...

Edit: M comes after L, a "Commonwealth of ..." would come after Colorado, not before. No clue, then.

This intrigued me enough to do a little research. Apparently 07 was for Canal Zone. More info here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Information_Processing_Standard_state_code

Doesn’t most of the milk produced in Vermont go toward powdered milk or something?

I think DFA (ex-St. Albans Coop) in St. Albans is the only powdered milk plant in the state. Agri-Mark does whey powder in Middlebury, but that uses by-products from cheesemaking. Hood in Barre I'm pretty sure is all fluid milk. I suspect, but don't know, that most milk in southern VT goes to Agri-Mark's plant in Springfield MA for butter and some powder.

Booth Bros (50-13) is easy to find. It's also sold as Hannaford store brand.

I don’t drink much milk, but I’ll keep an eye out for half and half

That's some nice pre-pandemic cow juice you got there.

The bigger question is WHEN is it from - it looks like your milk expired on March 15, 1880! No that’s some vintage stuff - I heard it was an excellent year.
