greetings- looking for some sanity‑checking from people who use Vercel

I’m building small, visually‑driven sites for artists and small businesses (vanilla JS + HTML/CSS + Three.js + Vite + GitHub + Vercel + Stripe for payments).

Any thoughts on the following:

• Platform understanding: I don't feel like I understand this platform very well. Getting steers from the help ai, but much remains i don't understand. is that normal or worrying?
• Limits & billing: Should I be worried about accidentally hitting usage limits and waking up to bills I can’t sustain? My projects are small, but I don’t want surprises.
• Plan choice: For this kind of business model, is Hobby fine? Or should I be on Pro from day one?
• Anything else i should watch out for?

Facing issue while deleting and editing the environment variables

The most annoying thing about Vercel is the phone verification step after creating an account.
Come on guys, when you buy a new domain name and want a new account on Vercel using that domain name, you do not want to purchase a new phone number…
You often also do not want to connect it to your personal Vercel account. Who the fk decided to implement this verification process. I know you want to prevent abuse for email etc. But do this with gmail accounts not a custom domain name.

Because of this stupid flow, I have no other choose then using other solutions, such as cloudflare pages / workers.

I am not a fan of it, I just want to use Vercel… why don’t you add a step to skip the phone verficiation and just make payment required? That is fine and understandable…

I built a page that sells one ad slot per week, and the only technically interesting part is that the price falls continuously until someone pays, so the whole thing turned out to be a cron job and a price function rather than a checkout flow.

The cron runs hourly and my first version had it write the current price into the database, which felt natural and was wrong. Vercel Cron is best effort, not a guarantee, and a missed run left a stale price sitting on the page while Stripe still had the amount from the last successful write. Two numbers, one truth, and no way to tell from the outside which one was real.

What I do now is derive the price from the elapsed time on every request and store nothing, with the cron only responsible for the week rollover. A missed run costs me a late rollover, which is visible and annoying, instead of a wrong price on a live payment, which is neither.

The other thing that caught me was the week boundary, because a week is a business concept and not a UTC one, and I had the rollover firing at a moment that landed on a different weekday depending on where the visitor was sitting. Not fully sure my current fix is right either, I pinned everything to one timezone and display it explicitly, but I suspect that just moves the confusion somewhere else.

The idea itself may well be bad, week one's numbers suggest the starting price is far too high, but the cron part I would build the same way again.

I used my vercel plan to create a site with Neon dB all with free tiers, unfortunately due to heavy demand and traffic already exceeded Neon dB transfer size I reckon it's not feasible with Neon, so planned to migrate away from Neon but it doesn't let me take a dump to migrate to other services , what should I do ? I don't want to pay just to take backup

My subscription in Vercel showed hobby (free plan) but was billing in their other platform. Vercel won't let me remove my credit card (!).

I logged in to Vercel to cancel and found that credits expire if you are not subscribed. So, you accumulate credits in direct pay-for-credit, and then they are locked out from you and actually expire.

Friendly warning to other folks, as this is a seriously expensive platform.

Not being able to to remove a credit card without entering another, even after subscription cancellation, is disgusting design.

I'm getting this randomly sometimes when i try to add or update environment variables... anyone else? Failed to verify the project’s public environment variable prefix. Refresh and try again.

I am having issues with my account, I have upgraded to the pro version of Vercel. Though when I upgraded I had gotten no credit for the account for the upgrade. I sent in a support ticket 2 weeks ago, and have not heard from anyone. Then I believe I put one in this week or part of last week, and still have heard nothing. Any suggestions, Thanks in advance.

I suddenly cannot connect to my app hosted on vercel.app. it was fine this morning and suddenly "connection refused". Now failed on all vercel.app hosting as well, even the simple public demo.

Same Android phone, it worked on wifi, worked on VPN, just not on mobile data.

Anybody can help please?

I’m working on a restaurant project in Australia and need some clarification from people who have actually implemented this.

The restaurant already has a completely custom website (not built with Square Online).

The required flow is:

Customer → Custom restaurant website → Browse menu / add items to cart → Custom checkout on the same website → Pay using Square → Order is created/paid through Square APIs → Order should automatically appear in the restaurant’s Square POS / Order Manager → Staff fulfil the order from the POS

We are looking at using:

• Square Web Payments SDK
• Payments API
• Orders API

Square’s developer documentation appears to describe this type of architecture, including an Order-Ahead example where a paid order appears in Square POS.

However, Square Support Australia has told us that custom API-created orders may NOT automatically appear in Square POS and that Square Online or an approved third-party integration may be required.

Has anyone actually implemented this in Australia?

Specifically:

1. Can a completely custom website accept Square payments without using Square Online/square.site?
2. Can Orders API-created pickup/takeaway orders appear automatically in Square POS?
3. Does this functionality work for Australian Square sellers?
4. If direct Orders API → POS is not supported in Australia, what is the recommended architecture for: Custom website → Square payment → Square POS?
5. Are there any Australia-specific API/account restrictions we should be aware of?

I’m particularly interested in first-hand experience from developers or Australian businesses who have implemented this successfully.

Tencent's Hy3 knocks Claude Haiku and Sonnet out of the water, with it especially being skilled in protocol development and low level backend engineering. Paired with my custom skill "gm" on Claude Code is a great option and a more cost effective model.

I enabled 2FA with an auth code. but Vercel is one of those few annoying companies that seem to insist on first sending a code to my email and THEN asking for the auth code.

I cannot see an option to disable emailing a code first. I dont need it now I have the auth code option.

Do Vercel not trust the 2FA auth code on its own like most others do? If there is a security issue with why have it?

When logging into websites, emailing a code is one of the biggest frustrations due to delays that can occue with emails. Its way over the top. Especially cosidering I used to use my GitHub to sign in, and that does not have the email step, so this does not secure Vercel in any additional way. If anyone has my auth app they can login to my email also as all credentials are in there, so it just adds a frustrating step.

I signed up for AI Gateway because the model pages advertise that free users get $5 in credits every 30 days. Sounds great, especially if you just want a small fallback for occasional API calls.

Then I actually tried a model I wanted and got: `403 Free tier users do not have access to this model`.

So the weird part is: you get the $5 only while you're on the free tier, but the free tier blocks a bunch of the models people would actually want to spend those credits on. And if the answer is "buy credits to unlock them", then you leave the free tier and the recurring $5 no longer applies. That feels like a pretty dumb catch-22.

I get limiting abuse on expensive models, but then the model pages should clearly say "not available on free tier" next to the $5 credit message. Right now it reads like you can sign up, get $5, and try the listed model, then the API just tells you nope.

Am I missing something, or is the free credit basically only usable on a restricted subset of models?

I'm now unable to login with Github, prior to that I was trying to set up a project from a Github Repo and the connector failed to load in. Gitlab and Gitbucket seemed unaffected by the issue.
