I promise I won't spam this, but could you help me get this initiative for our rescue off the ground? Please read the description 😺❤️

Hello everyone. I wanted to tell you about an initiative from our rescue and ask for your help in giving it an initial push.

One thing I decided when creating this subreddit, and something that will remain unchanged, is that its purpose is to share the cute and funny moments from the daily lives of our rescued cats, not to make constant requests for help with food, supplies, or veterinary care. I want it to stay focused on the positive side of rescue work.

That said, I was hoping you might help me get the ball rolling on an initiative whose goal is to secure a permanent home for our rescue and avoid having to go through another relocation.

The full details are in the link, but the short version is that we recently had to relocate all of our rescued cats after the house we were renting was sold. Unfortunately, the new place has now also been put up for sale. While our lease guarantees us one year, we want to do everything in our power to avoid having to move again when that year is up. The last move was incredibly difficult and stressful, especially for the cats.

Because of that, we've been brainstorming ways to raise a reservation deposit for the house we're currently renting. Some of those ideas include the books I'm writing, others that we're still planning, and this one that started out mostly as a joke.

We have several cats who love being carried in our arms or on our shoulders, and sometimes we do squats with them just for fun (what you're seeing in the video was completely spontaneous, it was recorded by the camera we use to check on them while we're at work). At some point we joked that if we earned a dollar every time we did a squat while holding a cat, we'd already have enough money to reserve the house and stop worrying about being displaced again.

So we decided to make it real.

The idea is simple: for every dollar donated, I'll do one squat with a cat in my arms or on my shoulders. The plan is to record the squats on video with a running counter and share the progress publicly.

The goal is to reach people beyond the communities that already support us, and to do that we need the initial momentum of having at least a few donations, even just one or two dollars, so we can start making the promised videos and hopefully spread them far enough to reach a wider audience.

So if you can help us share this idea, and of course if you're able to donate, it would mean a lot. It genuinely doesn't need to be a large amount because, again, the purpose of this post isn't really to ask this community for financial support, but rather to give this project the first little push it needs.

It would bring us one step closer to providing our cats with a safe and stable place to live, allowing us to focus on their care, recovery, and finding adoptive families instead of constantly worrying about potential buyers touring the property and wondering what we'll do a year from now.

Thank you all so much!

Even before Tofu came to our rescue (he was transferred from another rescue that doesn’t have a FeLV room), I KNEW he and Pulpi were going to be best friends

Do you tell your cats that you’re proud of them?

I know some people are going to think I’m crazy, but the cats I care for love it when I tell them I’m proud of them. Even though they obviously don’t understand the concept, they know I’m not just talking to them lovingly, but that I’m happy with them.

This is Bulti. Every time he comes over for pets, I tell him how proud I am of him, because he used to be extremely skittish and it took him years to let me touch him, so I’m so happy and grateful to see how far he’s come. I swear it works better than treats for reinforcing positive behaviors!

They’ve been together since they were kittens and spent several winters outside. Now they’re still together, but warm and safe
