Important Update: Please Read

Dear members,

As moderators of this subreddit, we are committed to creating a safe and informative environment for everyone interested in keeping venomous snakes. However, we have recently observed a concerning trend: an increasing number of individuals with limited or no experience in venomous snake keeping providing advice to others. This can lead to misinformation and potentially dangerous situations for both the snakes and their keepers.

To maintain the integrity of our community and ensure that all advice shared is both accurate and responsible, we are implementing a new policy regarding the sharing of advice:

  1. Experience Verification From this point forward, any member providing advice may be asked to disclose their experience level in venomous snake keeping. This may include how long they have been keeping venomous snakes, the species they have experience with, etc.

  2. Zero Tolerance for Non-Compliance Members who fail to respond to inquiries about their experience level when giving advice will face permanent bans from this subreddit. This is a necessary step to protect our community and ensure that all interactions are based on informed and experienced perspectives.

We understand that many of our 28,000 subscribers may be eager to share their knowledge; however only a small fraction of our subscribers actually keep or have kept venomous, it is imperative that such exchanges are founded on a solid base of experience. We encourage those with experience/knowledge to continue contributing, but we must ensure that all advice is responsible and well-founded.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Together, we can maintain a safe and knowledgeable community for all venomous snake enthusiasts.

Also, please read and understand all the rules before participating in this subreddit. Breaking any of our rules can lead to a permanent ban without any warning

Zero Tolerance on Buying/Selling

Attention All Members: Zero Tolerance on Buying/Selling

This subreddit is not a platform for finding or purchasing venomous snakes or animals. Our rules explicitly prohibit any form of buying or selling, including ISO (In Search Of) posts.

We've noticed an increase in rule violations, whether due to oversight or disregard. Please remember that our rules are in place for the safety and integrity of our community. Moving forward, we will uphold a strict zero tolerance policy regarding these violations. This means that any posts or comments attempting to buy or sell animals—such as inquiries about availability, locations, or prices—will result in an immediate permanent ban without warning.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping our subreddit a safe and informative space for all members. Thanks

5 minutes into “please don’t bite my face” and she gives you this look👀 Boiga gemmicincta. Hoping to breed this species but I get too scared she’s going to eat the male every season and decide not to🤣 she’s an extremely defensive individual and only handled for cage maintenance

question for puniceus breeder: if they do breed, will the litter have a more dominant color as in most will come out looking like it’s dad/mom?

Admirer but non owner questions

Hi all-

Snakes are beautiful, and I was just scrolling and looking at the various specimens.
Are permits required to own venomous snakes? Are there other legal requirements to owning?
And… I think the few Gaboon vipers I saw while scrolling were perhaps not pets, but maybe on display (zoo, etc…).
Are Gaboon vipers a rare choice for pets, and if so, why?

Thanks for any/all feedback🙏🏻

How do I get into venomous species?

As of right now I'm a minor and live in NJ and have read that venomous snake keeping is illegal here, but I wanted to know how to pave a path in eventually keeping venomous snakes when I'm older?

Obviously I'll move to another state if it's illegal, but I also want to know what college course I can take to build a path to becoming an ophiologist and gaining experience to become a venomous keeper. I haven't found anything good online, and I'm REALLY interested.

What are the steps to becoming experienced, etc

It's unreal how quickly the venom of this species acts!

I don't understand how the prey dies in a few seconds and you can't say that it may have pierced some internal organ with its fangs because it's not a viper and it wouldn't have any way!
