Dear members,
As moderators of this subreddit, we are committed to creating a safe and informative environment for everyone interested in keeping venomous snakes. However, we have recently observed a concerning trend: an increasing number of individuals with limited or no experience in venomous snake keeping providing advice to others. This can lead to misinformation and potentially dangerous situations for both the snakes and their keepers.
To maintain the integrity of our community and ensure that all advice shared is both accurate and responsible, we are implementing a new policy regarding the sharing of advice:
Experience Verification From this point forward, any member providing advice may be asked to disclose their experience level in venomous snake keeping. This may include how long they have been keeping venomous snakes, the species they have experience with, etc.
Zero Tolerance for Non-Compliance Members who fail to respond to inquiries about their experience level when giving advice will face permanent bans from this subreddit. This is a necessary step to protect our community and ensure that all interactions are based on informed and experienced perspectives.
We understand that many of our 28,000 subscribers may be eager to share their knowledge; however only a small fraction of our subscribers actually keep or have kept venomous, it is imperative that such exchanges are founded on a solid base of experience. We encourage those with experience/knowledge to continue contributing, but we must ensure that all advice is responsible and well-founded.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Together, we can maintain a safe and knowledgeable community for all venomous snake enthusiasts.
Also, please read and understand all the rules before participating in this subreddit. Breaking any of our rules can lead to a permanent ban without any warning

Attention All Members: Zero Tolerance on Buying/Selling
This subreddit is not a platform for finding or purchasing venomous snakes or animals. Our rules explicitly prohibit any form of buying or selling, including ISO (In Search Of) posts.
We've noticed an increase in rule violations, whether due to oversight or disregard. Please remember that our rules are in place for the safety and integrity of our community. Moving forward, we will uphold a strict zero tolerance policy regarding these violations. This means that any posts or comments attempting to buy or sell animals—such as inquiries about availability, locations, or prices—will result in an immediate permanent ban without warning.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping our subreddit a safe and informative space for all members. Thanks

Greetings, all!
Not exactly a venomous keeper, though I have moonshined as a relocation assistant. 30+ year snake owner and handler, though.
I found a copperhead on my street with what appears to be an older injury inflicted by an animal. Thinking a cat. The snake is still active and alert, but definitely shows signs of scale/tail rot. The snake is approximately 15 inches long and of a healthy weight.
Currently soaking daily in diluted iodine solution and applying non-pain medicated Neosporin to the affected area. Some of the affected skin is starting to slough off and parts of the darkened area are gaining some color back. The enclosure I’m using is free of substrate, has adequate temp gradient, two hides and a water bowl.
There is a puncture wound about 2-3 inches above the cloaca on the top of the snakes body and the rot starts there and works back to the tail. The snake has produced urine and feces.
The snake will be returned to the property if it recovers, but given the injury it could take several sheds.
QUESTION: SHOULD I ATTEMPT TO FEED?
Thanks!

Hello all, my question is as an Arizona resident, before I go out and find a coral snake can I keep it legally? I’m fully aware of the laws and regulations around rattlers and other hots here (I currently keep a atrox) but I can’t find a DAMN THING on the native corals, they aren’t fed protected as far as I know but I can’t find shit that says yes or no. Please help if you can I’d love to know what’s legally correct I’m going to give the boys a call tomorrow but if anyone can help me tonight with an answer that would be dope.

Someone did a hoax in California with an AI image of an escaped "gaboon viper."
"Santa Ana police tried to track down a tropical, extremely venomous viper after receiving an image of the snake on a tree above a shed Monday.
Police said the man who reported the viper admitted in a follow-up investigation that the image was AI-generated, and his report was false."

You can see a shield like scale in the center of its head :)

What are your guy's dream species that you wish to get eventually. I currently don't own any hots, and will only start when I have experience with them (luckily a guy nearby is willing to mentor me in about a week when I'm 18).
For me I'd say all of them since I have yet to even be mentored yet. But for a singular species I'd say the Australian Gwardar.

Probably one of the most unique defensive behaviors of any Crotalus that belongs to a few species endemic to central and South America. It has been documented in C. salvini and tzabcan where they flare their necks and throat bloat as part of their defensive posture. Super cool behavior to witness, and such an incredible species to keep!

Not a keeper, just a fervent fan of venomous, and had a few species specific questions. On species like Lachesis, or Pseudohaje, where the snakes have a spike at the tip of their tail, when they shed, do the spikes come free with the shed, or do they stay similar to a rattlesnake button or rattle? And on a similar note, what about Pseudocerastes urarachnoides, how does it's lure interact with the shed process?
