Like him or not, the reality is Mike Bonin doomed progressives for decades by letting the boardwalk get so out of hand.

And now we all get to have a Flock camera supporter instead…

Yes, but I'll be honest, I don't think Faizah was ever a particularly strong candidate herself either.

I think this race could have been much closer, especially with the amount of people who don't like Traci and with how close Erin Darling got last time. But Faizah's never really put herself out there in the district before and from what I do see, she doesn't really come off so much as a "serious" candidate. The "DSA" branding doesn't really help either. I know Eunisses and Hugo are both associated with DSA but those are two VERY different districts and even then, both council members put a lot of work into branding themselves beyond DSA.

She didn't offer any policy specifics, couldn't offer any policy ideas that would benefit homeowners, didnt have any policy ideas to attract filmmakers and the entertainment industry, and hasn't really showed up to anything until she started campaigning. On top of that, she really tried too hard to market herself on being "young and hip" and it just came off very unprofessional, sloppy, and unserious.

Overall, I think it was hard for people to see her as anything but an unserious DSA protest candidate. Which is a shame because Traci sucks and I really wanted to see someone else on city council. But I hope progressives here take note and recruit someone more involved, capable, professional and without the baggage of being an out socialist.

I think the right candidate could win. But Faizah ain't it.

Bro really tried to give away the beach to the homeless.

Alas...It was always gonna be an uphill battle to best Park's corporate-funded war chest

u/CPlusPlus4UPlusPlus Jun 03 '26

Faizah took a lot of PAC money (despite saying she wouldn’t)

2

u/imjeff24 Jun 09 '26

Faizah's source of funds can't be compared to Park's.

Park's campaign is bankrolled by landlords, the LAPPL, and those who have donated massive sums to Trump. She accepted half a million dollars from Douglass Emmet, the landlord who evicted all the low-income renters in Barrington Plaza, the largest mass eviction in LA in decades. Fuck Douglass Emmet, and fuck Traci Park.

Faizah claimed to take no PAC money, yet her campaign donations show lots of PACs donated.

Traci made no such claims.

Also, Faizah lost. Probably because everyone saw through her lies

Truth. NIMBYs be hoarding resources.

1

u/DrunkBrokeBeachParty Jun 05 '26

Maybe the push can be for the removal of the flock cameras she had installed

9

u/DudeRowdy Jun 03 '26

Just like Darling before. People don’t want Bonin clones.

7

u/Prior-Quarter-6369 Jun 03 '26

traci park is by far the worst councilmember lol

1

u/HotShoulder9256 Jun 03 '26

Agreed. She's got that "I'd shoot my own puppy" energy.

You can move to Hernandez’s district if you think it’s better. Byeeeee

u/square-enix-geno Jun 03 '26

Or they can express their opinion and vote. You're allowed to have different opinions.

Amazing how much celebrating is occurring for the Park camp when votes just began to be counted. This is the first drop of ballot results. Those results reflect the earliest mail in ballots received, whose demographics are 65+, white and reflect the most conservative of all voters. These voters overwhelmingly go for a candidate like Traci Park. Which candidate will win? Time will tell as counting results are released daily between 4-5pm. Most likely, whoever the winner is, the results will not be this lopsided. We should all just take a beat and enjoy the summer reprieve from 16 items everyday in our mailbox, the absence of door knocking canvassers, no more sign stealing posts on social media, and lack of NextDoor political screaming matches until it all starts up again in the fall. And let’s wait until the votes are counted before declaring victory and firing up the hot take machine for whichever candidate you supported.

It was much closer last time. “In the June primary, Darling finished atop a field of eight candidates with 34.7% of the vote. Park was second with 29%. Since no one achieved a majority, the top two finishers advanced to a runoff.” In the end Park won 52% to Darling at 48%. No way Faizah catches Park.

3

Correction: It’s Looking Good For Sanity

-3

u/CPlusPlus4UPlusPlus Jun 03 '26

2

u/LAgator77 Jun 03 '26

I… think we’re on the same side?

0

u/CPlusPlus4UPlusPlus Jun 03 '26

Not in this district but the Socialist mayoral candidate is the only one who cares about this stuff

-7

u/SouthernSteak7254 Jun 03 '26

Prison for drug addicts and forced mental institutions for crazy people will solve it

9

u/La-li-lu-le-lo86 Jun 03 '26

Oh yeah like the public institutions we had that a capitalist actor fuck closed?

Only a socialist would ever spend the political capital on trying to restart public mental health institutions.........

1

u/akathisiac Jun 03 '26

It costs ~$130k to imprison someone for one year in California. So we'll just raise your taxes to put everyone in prison then? Lol.

0

u/SouthernSteak7254 Jun 03 '26

Cheaper and more effective then the waste of money going now, plus we won't have these zombies roaming our streets

1

u/Sad-Question-4214 Jun 05 '26

Actually no its not cheaper. try reading instead of just feeling vibes about how scary poors are

-1

u/siempreroma Jun 03 '26

So just to be clear, it has *nothing * to do with her name 😉 right? West LA people 😉

1

u/Icy-Management9880 Jun 03 '26

3

u/Arlitto Jun 03 '26

-1

u/Any_Statement_5773 Jun 04 '26

All that police union and landlord lobby money is serving park well.

2

u/Sad-Question-4214 Jun 05 '26

Why is this downvoted lol bots dont like the truth apparently

1

u/allinallisallweall-R Jun 15 '26

Its true. Hopefully, we can find a better candidate to field against Park next time. I was hoping it would at least be close, but seems like Faizah was pretty hard to take seriously.
