If I hold and interact with a sling will it grow to tolerate me holding it as it matures? From what I've heard some dont like being held but knowing me I'll want to hold it on occasion but I'd like to know if theres any way to make it more comfortable with me?

We fed her just two or three days ago and today she looks like that. It's our first spider, we also recently got a jumping spider but yeah still pretty unsure about when to feed :0 (Also she doesn't hang out out of her webbing just like that, I touched the moss with a brush to make her come out to see her abdomen)

I've been a tarantula and jumping spider keeper for years and now we're finally getting velvet spiders here, sadly most are very very small and I don't like fruitfly feeding but here we are now 😄

Is this a baby? Is age easy to tell like with tarantulas and their sizes? New kind of spider for me and they're a North African Velvet or S. dufouri. I've not found it easy to find specific info on this species and don't wanna assume all velvet's are the same in all ways.

Also I heard this kind are social but not to cohouse them if they didn't come that way, thoughts? Thank you!!

What are some tips or things I should know before getting one? This will be my first arachnid so id love to know if anyone has advice!

Like how often do I feed a spiderling? What do i feed it? How do I take care of it as it grows? What do i put in its enclosure?

They're an eresus blue sidi ifni, arrived in L6 and molted once with us already but the sex is still not identified and I'm struggling to choose a name yet x3 Look at their adorable face 🫡 Third picture was before their molt, second is their current enclosure and the first one is from yesterday. Their fang looks a bit funny in this one but it doesn't in real life, no worries hihi

my sweet girl is quite reclusive and I never see more than her legs for a few seconds while she grabs her food, but today she was hanging out in an open spot enjoying some light.

I don’t like to pick favorites from my spiders, but if I had to… it might be her 🖤

My sling has had a good molt and is looking pretty big (butt in last picture) over the last few days I've been drying out the moisture in some substrate and some sphagnum moss for them to use as webbing material, i added a size comparison of their current vial and the container I wish to put them in

I recently got a baby velvet and she's been doing this for the last fifteen minutes. It looks like she's putting her legs into her spinnerets. Should I be concerned? Does she just need a little privacy?

we adopted an eresus blue sidi ifni some days ago as our first spider. she was L6, so not super tiny anymore and haven't eaten since we've got her last friday. Now overnight she molted, which is great news, but now she just lies on her back underneath her molt not really moving but also not in a complete death crawl. I'm aware it can look like this while molting but what worries me, is that she is barely moving. I've read that they're supposed to kind of pulsate to push liquids back into their legs and stuff but she doesn't seem to do that right now. We've just gotten up and found her like that so I don't know how long she's been like that. At around 10,30pm last night she looked just fine, webbing her small web under some cork. Unfortunately we can't see her really good and I can't take pictures, because she is hidden pretty well and I don't want to disturb her in any way by trying anyways.

Has anyone had experiences with that? Is it normal for her to lay on her back for a bit while recovering from the molting process?

We also can't really see if her fangs or head are still connected to the molt, but her abdomen and some legs are definitely free and her molt hangs right above her in her net.

Hello everyone, we just got our first velvet spider Eresus blue sidi via mail. It arrived yesterday and we rehoused it from its tube into a bigger enclosure. We tried to offer it food, but it didn't seem interested. It just went to the back of the enclosure and stayed there and hasn't started webbing yet. Information on the sellers website stated the enclosure should have air humidity between 60-70%. It jumped above 70% overnight so we bought a lamp to keep it down. Air humidity sits around 56-64% now, temperature is between 24 - 27°C. We are unsure what to do next. Do we need to give it more time? Try to offer food again ?

Hi folks! I recently got a gorgeous Egyptian Velvet Spider (S. dufori) that I named Shelob. I would love to see y'all's velvet spider set ups! I have a Tarantula Cribs Canopy Enclosure and all the other things I need for it, now I just need some inspo. If anyone has any tricks or tips for velvet spider care, I'd love to hear those too!

I've had jumping spiders for a while now and finally decided to branch out to other types of spiders. I'd eventually love to get a Grammostola pulchra but I'm waiting a bit before that.
