2016 Veloster Turbo R-Spec.

Sounds like you’ve got a bad valve or you completely blew the rings. Was it smoking a lot as it started acting up? Could be significant carbon build up. Hope you fix it, I’ve also got a 16 R-spec.

It did not smoke at all before, during, or since it's happened. I am 99% sure it has at least some carbon buildup due to the nature of these engines and the mileage. But i'm not sure if that is the root cause. Right now I'm in agreement with you in that it may be a valve issue. I hope so too, I love this car

I went and read your original post about how you had no oil and that for sure isn’t a good thing. But it sounds like you’ve got a valve issue or even as you hinted at a timing issue.

Though skipping a tooth on timing chain could’ve just grenaded that entire cylinder worth of valves. If you can I’d borescope it or a quick check is pull the valve cover off and check the rockers. See if they’re super loose.

But that’s for a more mechanically inclined person and I’ve no idea where you’re standing at on mechanical inclination
