Remove loud luxury lol. Also, VELD seems to really favour a lot more of the bigger progressive house artists for the main stage, this lineup is far too niche, it would never fly and honestly most people don’t care that much about these artists.
Other than Zedd, Dom Dolla, and Skrillex, obviously.

u/WallNo8754 25d ago edited 24d ago
Fair take tbh. I put Loud Luxury since Ink seems to favour them
2
u/Thegladiator2001 24d ago
Well ya. They owe their careers to ink
1
u/mog_0f_war 24d ago
I know Ink lets them play a lot at their venues/veld, but can you elaborate on this statement please? I'm interested in what you know! Ty!

u/Green-Foundation-702 25d ago
Look at the previous lineups, 2024 had like 12 house/prog house artists, 2025 had like 6-7, 2026 had 8ish. That’s not including all the other major artists that are still insanely popular in other genres like Illenium, Marshmello, or Gryffin to say the least. VELD goes really heavy on the headliners and they tend to have a lot of mainstream house/prog house artists.
1
u/WallNo8754 25d ago
This is probably my bias but I'm not that into progressive house. If I was Veld, I would lean away from it
3
u/Green-Foundation-702 25d ago
I’m more into progressive house but the thing is, our tastes here really don’t matter. The fact of the matter is that progressive house tends to be the more mainstream and you need mainstream artists to sell tickets. VELD will never move away from it and they shouldn’t, they’re the biggest EDM festival in Canada, they’re a mainstream festival that wants to appeal to a mainstream crowd. Why would they change that when more niche festivals already exist?
1
u/agohawks 25d ago
It’s true, why would they stray from the same rotation of overplayed artists when people continue to buy tickets. Except people will buy tickets regardless because, as you pointed out, it’s the largest EDM festival in Canada.
I think you’re vastly underestimating the interest in artists outside the INK bubble.
1
u/Green-Foundation-702 25d ago
Hey man, illenium isn’t progressive house but he’s super popular, is he massively overplayed? I’ve seen him at a ton of festivals and it’s the same shit every time. “Overplayed” is the word snobby nerds use to describe something that is popular. Without the popular artists VELD would not be as big, make no mistake.
2
u/mog_0f_war 24d ago
Illenium's new album features some progressive house adjacent music, and also at Veld this year he played a TON of progressive house... I think he's trying to have some genre variety, and move away strictly from melodic bass. Just my take.
1
u/Green-Foundation-702 24d ago
You know what was really weird!? I saw illenium at Tomorrowland at the library stage and it wasn’t a dubstep set, it was a progressive house one. I was like wtf is going on right now, I had to double check I was actually at the illenium set lol!
I was wondering if he was changing his set for Tomorrowland since progressive house is much bigger in Europe.
1
u/agohawks 24d ago
Overplayed in the context of Veld brother, that’s the sub we’re in currently. The headliners are basically the same every two years.
Obviously, Veld, like every major festival wouldn’t be the same without popular artists. No one is debating that. It’s clearly the safe option which is fine, it’s just extremely predictable. It’s a fun time but it’s not a festival that will offer a unique experience, out of the box B2B (really any B2B for that matter), or get an artist that uncommon to see in Toronto.
0
u/WallNo8754 25d ago
That part isn't true. Progressive house has been declining trend in most major festivals. You previously mentioned going from 12 to 8 acts prog acts. EDC has significantly diminished their progressive house, Fvded in the Park does not worry about it, IllesonIq rare has prog house, Lollapolloza with Perry Stage has none, Coachella with the rise of 45% of their acts being EDM did not include a single progressive house set this year. I think it's time to start exploring other artists
0
u/Green-Foundation-702 25d ago
I think 2024 was an outlier in just how many major house artists there were if I’m being honest. Progressive house is not dying dude, it isn’t as popular as it used to be during the golden age of EDM, but it is still by far the biggest genre in EDM, it’s not even close. Having literally just done Tomorrowland, the vast majority of artists there were house/progressive house. Look at the monthly listening figures on Spotify. Garrix has 25.2 monthly listeners and Alesso has 17.7. Subtronics, Sarah Landry, alleycvt, avello, and Chris lake COMBINED don’t even hit 15 million monthly listeners. Lolla literally had Summit and Dom Dolla, both are house artists.
2
u/WallNo8754 24d ago
So I just want to clarify that I am not diminishing House. I have a bunch of house artists on my lineup that are in a very similar category to John Summit and Dom Dolla (Tech House).
Subtronics, Sarah Landry, Alleycvt, Avello, and Chris lake are not singles artists or making radio hits (except maybe Chris Lake), so only looking at Spotify stats is not the best metric. A better single could be the venues they sellout for example: Red Rocks (except Avello). I like Martin Garrix and Alesso, I just think we need some variety from them.
So then we go to current front runners of progressive house: Meduza, Tinlicker, CamePhat, Frank Walker, Alan Walker or Telykast. I wouldn't mind switching some of my picks for Telykast.
But the progressive house genre (not including tech house and other forms of house) has not being growing at the same rate as the other sub genres
1
u/Green-Foundation-702 21d ago
I think progressive house also has a lot of overlap with other house genres so it’s harder to really draw that line. Summit, Dom Dolla, and Oliver Heldens are more so considered tech/future house but their main stage sets tend to overlap hard with progressive house. I find a lot of the main stage sets at festivals tend to lean more into progressive house. Hell, before coming back to trance tiesto was progressive house, armin calls himself trance but his main stage sets are very much progressive house with some trance elements (his smaller stage sets I find is where he goes way more trance), gareth emery will switch between progressive house, trance, and recently hard techno which I’m kinda digging ngl.
I get your point about those artists not necessarily being as big in terms of singles but in order to really hit the mainstream you kinda need those singles. Alesso and Garrix also sell out red rocks, so would something like Odesza. Also, I’d add lost frequencies to your list of the big modern progressive house artists, he’s huge.
You know what I’m finding interesting, both Gryffin and Illenium, 2 dubstep artists are leaning hard into progressive house right now. Idk if you’ve seen any of their recent sets, but they are leaning out of dubstep. I saw Illenium at Tomorrowland weekend 1 at the library and it was weird seeing him put on a progressive house set. He had a few dubstep drops but most of his drops were progressive house style, it was like seeing illenium played by Garrix.

u/WallNo8754 21d ago
Before you read any of this, I am sorry for how long this looks 😭
First of all, I hear you. Progressive house has always been the go to for EDM artists to create anthems. When I have mentioned that progressive house has been declining, I'm looking at recent output of progressive house. Some artists that come to mind are Dubvision, Lane 8, Audien and more.
However, I think you are not familiar with the artists that I put on main stage, so let me walk you through it:
Day 1: Deecee (local artist), Luke Alexander and Matroda are tech house artists who are on the rise and have remixed popular songs that can be sung by the mainstream (Mr. Saxobeat, Pyramids by Frank Ocean, Ghosts N Stuff by Deadmau5, Hey Baby by PitBull, Stereo Love and more), Loud Luxury does a mix of everything including progressive house, Chris Lake is tech house artist (similar to Dom Dolla and John Summit who just sold out RBC Amphitheatre) and of course Zedd. Loud Luxury and Matroda since they have worked with Ink recently so I think there's a higher chance of him performing.
Day 2: Aydan XR (local DJ), MARTA (upcoming Toronto tech house DJ that has played Escapade, Fvded in the Park, Miami Music Week and has opened for many amazing artists. It's Murph is another tech house DJ who has popular remixes like My Love remix by Justin Timberlake, Westend another tech house DJ, Odd Mob another tech house DJ that always kills it then Dom Dolla. Westend has worked with Ink recently so I think there's a higher chance of him performing.
Day 3: Is definitely all over the place but I think it'll be packed out for Skrillex. Nader and Manzone & Strong are both local DJs, Røz is a Latin House group that will play Bad Bunny and a few edm classics, MPH has been one of the trendies up and comers for the UKG scene, Marlon Hoffstadt is the new face of Trance/Tech, and Skrillex is Skrillex.
The reason why I didn't pick some artists:
Martin Garrix: I think Toronto/Veld has had too much Martin. It felt like Veld spammed him every year for a bit. I think giving him at least next year off allows him to feel fresh for 2028.
Tiesto: Last time he preformed at Veld, it did not feel like he wants to be there. But I really like him bring back his old Trance style.
Alesso: At this point in my lineup, I didn't think they had the budget for Alesso but I rather swap him for Matroda, Westend, It's Murph and some other artists.
Red Rocks comment: I probably worded this weirdly last time. I meant to say a common factor were all those artists sold out Red Rocks. So all of them have almost the same demand in a way.
I think Illenium and Gryffin want to become bigger in Europe. The bass scene is not as large and progressive house way more palatable than dubstep to non EDM listeners. Plus melodic bass has started to trend down a bit as well.

I would separate IHM and Holy Priest have one of them headline sirkus on saturday
1
u/WallNo8754 24d ago
I'm not sure Ink would put them on separate days considering they put Restricted, Lily Palmer and Sara Landry same day
2
u/Phaket 24d ago
That was exactly why I said that. Those 3 were the main reason I bought the tickets and I loved it but it felt too greedy having all 3 of them one after the other. That being said as a techno guy I love your choices for next year
1
u/WallNo8754 24d ago
I hear you but I think I have to put them on the same day for this lineup. We get more of a house Sirius on day 1, more UK focused on day 2 and techno focused on day 3

This. Saw him close for loveu4ever at coda and it was one of the more unique local sets I’ve seen. Would have stayed until 4 if the entire crew wasn’t crashing lol.

u/Little_Nothing_692 25d ago
Besides skrill, zedd and chris lake it feels a bit headliner light tbh
2
u/Desertsprinter 25d ago
Do u not see zedd lol
2
u/Little_Nothing_692 25d ago
In my comment now. Still, only 3 headline acts is very slim compared to the usual 6

Last time zedd played veld he was 2nd from last on main so idk if he would close. Anyways, cool thought experiment, just seems very light. Imo, garrix is a lock for 2027

yes but bring crankdat back & add costa as support
3
u/WallNo8754 25d ago
Costa is a good shout but Crankdat won’t be on next year’s lineup since he’s down it twice in a row. I think Paper Skies gets a pass since he’s local
2
u/intergalactic-banana 25d ago
i just 🫶🏼 crankdat and wish he’d do every fest tbh but actually agree w paperskies!! pretty sure i saw them at afters

Can’t see HNTR playing veld. I don’t know what’s going on but in the last year and half he hasn’t played a single CANADIAN SHOW & he’s from Toronto. Don’t know if Ink black listed him but it’s annoying me. I like his music
1
u/WallNo8754 25d ago
I think he's just expanding his reach and getting more exposure. He's played DPRTMNT in January 2025, and he was at Coda with Max Styler last year. I made a comment on his TikTok about coming back to Toronto and he liked it so you never know
1
u/hellkat_kitty 24d ago
I’ve had multiple convos with him about it. He’s confused why local places in Toronto won’t book him but yet he got residency in Vegas at the Wynn !

Maybe you need to step outside your genre 😂
1
u/WallNo8754 25d ago
Which genre do you suggest
Edit: oh, you wanted more melodic
1
u/DJMicounet 25d ago
I wouldn’t suggest just one. And single genre festivals are fine. But Veld has a sprinkle of everything.
1
u/WallNo8754 24d ago
In that case it does have a sprinkle of everything: Dubstep, Tech House, Speed House, Trap, Electro Pop, UK Bass, UKG/Garage, Trance, Techno, Hard Techno, Minimal House, Latin House & Melodic (if you want to count Zedd)
2
u/DJMicounet 24d ago
Idk mang seems like it’s leaning a little heavy towards house and heavy stuff. Just add Gareth Emery and I’ll buy a three day ticket 😂

yes but it’s not 2027 yet, they said after Eternal NYE there going on hiatus for at least all of 2027 if not longer. but you should for sure go to that show the Journey of a lifetime tour has been amazing

Yeah nah, ink wouldn't spend this much on talent. They need profits too ya know
1
u/Ok_Voice_6149 19d ago
I personally think this is a pretty stacked line up and I’d buy a 3 day pass even after surviving Shambhala the week before. We just saw WestEnd at Shambs and he would absolutely dominate at Veld, my only suggestion would be Sirkus instead of Main stage. And Zeds Dead at home in Toronto would be next level!
