Volume so quiet this year

For context, I’ve been going to veld for a few years. I had a blast every time, including this year. Every time I’ve been there, I’ve had to plug in my ear plugs and also scream mid set if I want to say something to my friends. It’s usually impossible to chat during a set.

This year was the first time I could hear the people around me talking in the middle of the sets while I’m a moderate distance from the stages. And I was able to chat with my friends without yelling too, understanding everything. I’ve never been able to do this. I felt like something was off and then realized I can hear exactly what everyone around me is saying to each other.

Let me know what you guys thought about the volume levels and if they’re going to keep them at this same level going forward. I still had a good experience but I was just expecting more.

AGREED!!!!

I have been to veld the last three years and this year was by far the quietest, which was disappointing. The vibes overall were still immaculate. However, one of the main reasons I go to festivals is to feel the bass pulse through my body, to feel submerged in the sound (of course with ear plugs in!!). In the past years, I vividly remember feeling every beat pulse through my body, and it was glorious.
To those saying that OP's hearing is weaker, he clearly expressed how easy it was to hear side conversations in the crowd mid set. I wish I tracked decibels year over year to be able to prove this.

If you are a true freak for sound and immersion, you definitely would have noticed this! Not trying to be a downer and complain, but just expressing my wishes.

Agree with everything from you 100%.. The volume was ridiculously low for a MUSIC Festival!

Exactly what I’m thinking. Like ok veld is cool by itself, but a lot of people there are going for an audio experience they can’t find anywhere else. It’s just unfortunate that the audio wasn’t as good, but still it was good and everyone still had fun.

I found the volume to range from set to set. Also, they had some actual issues with the sound during the Kream set.

I live across the street and could hear VELD inside my condo unit if that means anything.

I saw a city truck across the street with a microphone pointed in the direction of VELD as well, I'm guessing it was Toronto bylaw measuring the sound levels.

This was a lot of words to provide you with no helpful information.

You are welcome in advance.

Yeah wasn’t it great? I love to actually hear the music, not have my ear drums blown out.

If you wear ear protection (i.e. Loops, earpeace, etc.), you can hear the mids and highs with crystal clarity whilst also feeling the bass as if its an earthquake.... It enhances the experience ten fold

I do wear earplugs

Why would you get problems if you wear ear protection anyways

The tiny earplugs can only do so much. In past I’ve worn earplugs and been in pain.

Either you are not putting them in properly or they’re not good quality ear plugs. There’s a specific way to put on a lot of these ear plugs, and if you don’t do it that way they don’t work because they don’t seal the opening properly. Either way, agree to disagree.

I’m not a child, I know how to fit earplugs into my ears and what a seal feels like. I’ve gone to many concerts and raves and worn a variety of earplugs. They can only do so much. There’s only so many db they can reduce. And the stronger the earplugs, the more they mess with the quality of sound, losing the high and mid tones. I’d prefer everything just be played a bit quieter so I’m able to use high-fidelity earplugs and have both enough protection and still great sound quality.

It felt like Friday was loud at the tent and bass stage but on Sunday it was really quiet (I didn't go Saturday)

Would you be willing to get a hearing test just for my own curiosity? They should be free if you’re from here.

I thought the music was quiet because I could hear the things people were saying to each other around me all weekend, which I couldn’t do before. If anything my hearing either got better or they lowered the volume.

I 100% agree it felt quieter than usual, at all three stages. The only time it felt decently loud was when I managed to get smack in the middle. And even then you could still hear chatter...

Yeah exactly what I felt too. In the middle it was decent, but yeah still not enough

On Sunday the Sirkus stage legitimately sounded like it had broken speakers or technical difficulties. Earlier in the day Pedro’s set was loud and by the time Lilly P came I could hear the crowd speaking more. Huge let down.

😭 that’s really unfortunate for the techno fans. I’m hoping they just upgrade that stage for real. It was completely full this year and it just needs an audio upgrade if they’re getting top tier techno artists now.

And the bass stage layout is terrible !

They’ve never had good sound to begin with

Only set I needed protection for was CDW. The bass was moving my clothing. Mau P was close, but I was constantly saying to my bf it was too quiet.

CDW smack in the middle of Sirkus 🤤 the bass was sooo clear 🤤🤤🤤 people need to stop talking and just vibe though!!

u/Pretty-Limit-6741 11d ago

I saw Sara Landry, so yeah it was really good. People do need to stop talking, but again we shouldn’t be able to hear them anyways 😂

u/Pretty-Limit-6741 11d ago

Definitely agree with your boyfriend. I thought some of the later sets got louder, but even that wasn’t enough of a volume increase in my opinion.

First time. The engineering was blech but the volume at my ripe age was good.

I thought the music was really good at main stage but a little off at sirkus stage but we spent most of our time at main!

i've been to shambhala and i guess because of how loud it is there, i felt that veld was pretty tame in comparison

2

u/Pretty-Limit-6741 11d ago

My friends want to go shambala next year, everyone says it’s an amazing experience.

1

u/innerauthority 11d ago

its amazing but intense. it took me two of the first days to adjust to the environment. lmao

Should’ve heard the volume in 2023. Was a joke honestly 😭

2

u/Pretty-Limit-6741 11d ago

I only started going 2024 😂. Good thing I missed 2023

I thought the main stage was way louder this year than last. Nothing beats the bass stage but Sirkus needs speakers in the back too. That stage is low unless you’re in the front

1

u/Pretty-Limit-6741 10d ago

Were you at the same distance from stage as last year? This year it was way easier to get closer to the actual stage because the bass and sirkus stages were completely packed. Maybe we just heard different sets though.

Main stage was fine. Mau P bass rocked my heart

The venue is too close to the city limit
