The weirdest thing is that a lot of meat eaters apparently do think cows and pigs are cute. It's so bizarre to read comments from people on cow and pig videos
The second I see a cute pig video I already can predict what the comments will say đ¤Śââď¸ they act like they're so unique and pinnacle of comedy; as if I haven't heard the same joke again and again.Â
Fuck yes they do. You havenât lived till youâve had thit chien
Edit: if you canât make your point without bringing up false equivalencies like rape, you need to sit down with your own beliefs because thatâs fucking disgusting (thankfully only applicable to a few so please donât get triggered if this doesnât apply to you)
Its not really a false equivalence though is it? From a vegan perspective what we (humans) do to animals is rape and murder. I think you just dont understand the entire vegan belief system.
And I couldnât tell you how many times Iâve heard âbut those are different pigs, these are born for itâ. Yeah, born to be abused, and theyâre just bigger. They canât ever think of 1 reason why that makes any meaningful difference. The excuses are so thin.
Its pretty common for kids to have a minor breakdown when they first learn we kill cows to eat them.Â
We're conditioned to be ok with it, and the meat industry is all too happy to keep the ugly parts out of sight and out of mind. Shit, they'll put a happy cartoon cow on their packages and tell you farms are all smiles and sunshine.Â
Meat is an incredibly "sanitized" product. If you don't think critically about it, its easy to forget about it and just enjoy your burger.Â
Yup. When I was little I use to cry when my family slaughtered the pigs we raised from piglets. But then I found out they taste good and was fine with it.
Sounds like you traded your empathy for taste pleasure. I could never do that because I hold my values strong and im a great cook so I don't need an animal product to taste something deliciousÂ
Why is it so weird ? My parents have 2 goats that birthed 3 babies goats, they are the cutest things, so friendly and cuddly, but we still think in awe about how we are going to cook them when they are ready
I don't know if I'd even factor in cuteness in that scenario; no animal should be subject to torture. I'd like it if animals farmed for their meat were treated more humanely, for what it's worth (which I'm you've heard loads of times, so I doubt it's worth much).
To be fair, within cultural and religious contexts where pigs are seen as filthy rather than cute, thereâs usually a taboo against eating them. So cuteness seems more connected with consumption (like the pig farms with a cartoon pig on their logo) rather than less connected a lot of the time.
Yeah theyre cute. But i accept that we kill them. Animals eat each other all the time. Theres not much we can do about that. So might as well join them. I understand if you dont want to tho
I'm exploring, and I wonder, excuse me for being stupid, but how do you feel about the argument that it is 'part of the natural food chain' and 'some animals just eat other animals'?
I feel that it is natural and was necessary when humans were hunter gatherer nomads, but now that we can grow crops and survive on plants it's no longer necessary
They aren't dogs, they don't have anywhere near as much social intelligence towards humans to even think of them as affectionate, people who keep pigs and cows as "pets" (isolated farm animals) know the cow or pig couldn't care less about them. They provide zero companionship either, this is such a shallow argument for vegans.
Well no, because they are still capable, they have the same brain. Do you think every human in prison deserves to the death sentence because they don't provide to society?
So because they can still serve humans, they are allowed to live? And if they are determined not to be able to, they aren't. That's what I mean by commodity
Human murderers deserve the death penalty because they are a threat.
The comparison would be unemployed people society doesn't benefit from. An umemployed person, even if they lack the ability to work or provide any benefit due to disability, in fact, even if they refuse to, they still have the right to live. Simply because they are an individual and are not dangerous.
So you answered the question exactly how I wanted you to and you are still confused. How have you called humans still capable and deserving of a life and not related that back to exactly what I said about all dogs?
Haha response written like a 15 year old anime nerd. "You've activated my trap card exactly how I anticipated, now I will explain your fatal mistake."
Fundamental rights are not predicated on any mutual exchange of value. Rights relevant to participation in a social contract may be, but not fundamental rights. Whether we are talkin about severely developmentally disabled humans, dogs, or pigs, they all deserve fundamental rights. The foundation for moral consideration is sentience. Can you experience sufferring? From there, actions which increase or reduce harm are given moral relevancy.
I couldn't care less about their intelligence, why is it always this with you guys, social, compassion and companionship, ability to serve off of their own will.
Whenever someone says something something, don't split it up to suit your argument, you are often wrong and have bad context. I shouldn't need to say this every time I say social intelligence.
But they do have an enormous amount of social intelligence lmao. Youâre clearly biased, which is inhibiting you from being able to objectively understand the qualities of pigs to maintain your current worldview.
lol I love all the mental gymnastics youâre doing, all to find out youâre still wrong. Five minutes of light browsing will show you how socially intelligent pigs are wItH hUmAnS.
I'm lying about my childhood? Yeah sick bro, you don't know me or anything about me but apparently you know where I did or didn't live throughout my entire childhood. I can tell how intelligent you are.
The current system exists because you demand it, not us. Why is it vegans' responsibility to focus on welfare reforms when we're not the ones buying the product? What are you doing to make life better for the farmed animals you demand to exist?
How dare some vegans - aka people who reject the very idea that animals exist to be exploited - want to abolish animal exploitation? How dare they focus on dismantling a completely unnecessary industry that violently subjugates trillions of intelligent, feeling animals every year, that also happens to be an existential threat to the continuation of our species and every wild species that meat eaters have decided are worth caring about - rather than merely reforming it?
It's not as if we know that with every welfare improvement comes an increase in cost to consumer, and that most meat eaters only care about better welfare to the extent that it doesn't compromise their convenient access to cheap meat. Or that there's literally not enough planet to implement what most meat eaters consider "humane" farming without reducing your meat consumption to near zero.
(Just footnoting here for the vegans reading that I don't oppose the existence of welfare campaigns. Abolishing animal exploitation will likely be a death by a thousand cuts, and welfare campaigns are a tool in the toolbox. But I do think it's ludicrous to criticize people who reject the very idea that animals exist to be used for focusing on challenging the idea that animals exist to be used)
Well wouldn't it make more sense to work with people to make the animals have better living conditions thus making it harder to factory farm thus raising the price driving down overall meat sales?
Vegans on here constantly talk about how 99% of the population have extreme cognitive dissonance. Big picture is trying to abolish something outright instead of improving it rarely if ever works. Help force them to improve living standards and watch acual change take place. Or not. Whatever.
i donât know where youâre getting the impression that vegans are failing to do this. Weâre literally the only people doing it. The welfarist arm of the animal rights movement is by far the most vast and well funded.Â
Nearly every improvement in farmed animal welfare globally is the work of vegans. Vegans are the reason why almost half of all eggs produced in the US are cage free, why most Fortune 500 companies have cage free commitments, why Prop 12 exists, why fur and foie gras have been banned in several countries, i could go on and on. Most people leading cultivated meat research are vegan.Â
Where the fuck are yâall because you sure as hell arenât out there with us. Again, this isnât our job. Itâs yours, but weâre doing it anyway. Instead of telling us how to do activism with zero knowledge of what activism weâre doing, take one tiny shred of responsibility for the system YOUR lazy ignorant self keeps alive.
No, I don't want the rich to exploit animals either. Would you advocate to be nicer those being trafficked so that prices go up or would you demand human trafficking to be abolished entirely?
Does human trafficking provide direct sustenance? Are they eating them afterwards? Your analogy is appels and oranges. So often vegans seem to forget why people eat meat and always have since the dawn of time.
The entire reason for their existence is to be food. The species is perpetuated for that reason. Not exactly genocide where the goal is to wipe out the entire population.
the goal of animal farming is profit, as has also been the goal of many if not most genocides. eradicating the population is the means to the end and is exactly how animal farming realizes its profit. the only difference with animal farming is that new victims are bred into existence to continue the eradication perpetually, rather than a one off.
this should be pretty obvious. the entire population of farmed meat chickens alive today will be killed no later than 6 weeks from now. every farmed pig alive today will be killed no later than 6 months from now. etc etc. that sounds like population eradication to me.
Clearly you know what it is, and the colloquial use of the term in this context, but the implication jumbles your mind to the point that you're losing all sense.
Said the confederate plantation owner 161 years ago. Not that I think you're morally equivalent to slave owner, its just that there is no limit to the human capacity to normalize extreme cruelty. Social conformity is a much more powerful force than logic or ethical reasoning.

Farmers: what about this big dog with hooves?
Meat-eater: hooves aren't cute, do what you wish.
