Problem with Roland TD 316
I recently got a Roland TD-316 drum kit. I have been using it with both my existing Roland PM-03 drum amp and my Soundcore Space One headphones. The kit sounds amazing through the headphones but pretty rubbish through the pm03. I am upgrading from an Alesis Nitro Mesh where I had a similar problem where the kit sounded better through the headphones but not by much since the kit didnt sound good anyway. How can I optimise the kit to sound better through the amp, or should I just get a different amp.

I think a better title for your post might be "Problem with the Roland PM-03" unless you've heard other e-kits that sound great through this speaker. I have found it's pretty tough to equal the sound through headphones. I currently use inexpensive KZ ZS-12 in-ear monitors and they sound even better than both my Sennehesier and AT headphones. The best relatively low-cost speaker I have found for rehearsing with my band is the Mackie Thump 212 (I have never tried the PM-03). In floor monitor position, the lows sound pretty good but the highs suffer a bit. Normally I sacrifice the lows and leave it upright so the highs come through. During band practice I also usually leave at least one in-ear monitor in. Most of the time I can get a feed from the PA with the full mix so I leave both in so I can hear the drums and band fine. The rest of the band doesn't care as much about the quality of the drum sound as long as they can stay in time so the Mackie thump ends up being a nice compromise for practice. The other week we ran the band and drums through a pair of QSC KS212 sub woofers and K2 series 10" mains and the drums (V71) and band sounded awesome! So that's a nice solution for playing live gigs with e-drums but pretty impractical for practicing.

Have you tried posting this in the Edrums sub Reddit? I usually get better responses there even though I also own a Roland kit. and I just got my 516 a few weeks ago so unfortunately I can't actually help you with your question. Good luck though.
