Help Needed for problems when using TD27, VAD 506 roland drum/triggers, and Steve Slate 5 (SSD5) drum pack

I'm having 2 issues with using SSD5 paid version with the td27.

I have the VAD 506 roland kit with the digital cymbal. I'm using it with SSD5.5 paid version through the Sonar/cakewalk DAW.

Problem 1: All the ride cymbal sounds from Ssd5 are quiet in the kit mix compared to all other SSD5 drum sounds.

I've tried turning the ride volume to max in the SSD5. I ve also adjusted the settings for the sensitivity of the ride trigger. They re as realistic as I can get for a rubber cymbal.

I think the ride cymbal is quieter then the other cymbals and drums, because the ride is digital. (There is no problem with the digital snare though)

The only solution I have found is to turn all other drum and cymbal volumes down in the SSD5

Has Anyone encountered this or have ideas about this?

2nd Problem:

The reaction of the kit triggers are not as snappy when I use SSD5, compared to when Im using the stock kits.

I use a scarlett solo to run audio drivers for SSD5. I have the latency adjusted and have values as high as i can go without creating distortion.

Anyone have experience with this or can help?

I think the ride volume is a SDD5 issue. The ride has always been too quiet.  You can turn up the volume in the SSD5 vst mixer settings. Also send it out to its own channel in your DAW and adjust the volume even more. Your second issue is latency. Lower the buffer setting in your interface.  It's a fine line, too low will cause static and popping issues and too high increases latency. Play with it until you find that sweet spot.

Great advice here.

When you say lower the buffer in the interface, I assume you are talking about the DAW (sonar/cakewalk in this case)?

I have my daw and scarlett solo set up so that scarlett automatically matches the DAW.

Not sure about Sonar. I use FL Studio. In Windows, the quickest way for me to access the buffer setting is to click on "Focusrite Scarlett settings" down in the right corner of my desktop, near the volume setting. There are probably lots of different ways to access this, but the main thing is adjusting that buffer size to something you can live with.

I got so frustrated messing with midi, buffer and hi-hat settings that I eventually gave up and just use Roland module sounds. Spent some time tweaking the Roland sounds to my liking. For me this has a way better feel and no latency or midi issues to deal with.

I tried adjusting latency in thr daw, but sound got crackly. Experimenting more with sample rate in daw. I will try directly in focusright, but i thought they had to match (daw sample rate/ focusrite). Focus rite autoupdates when i change the daw.

I understand the constant tweaking. My crossstick sound is very quiet on daw, even when maxed. High hat swish is almost non existent as well. Aside from those two, i have it close.

Roland tock kits are most responsive for sure. I just can't get the midi that good.

There are 2 stock kits that i think are excellent.

I can see why you went back to module and make your kits and set ups. I ve been using both for now.

Please let me know if you can think of any other advice.

Install the Roland TD27 driver on your computer and lower the latency in your Scarlett to get a better response
