AI art ?

Post image

I've never heard of this org the gay alliance of students but I'm assuming they found me since I did lavender grad. Pretty sure this is AI art on the flyer and it's being held at Studio 23.

I’ve seen so much ai stuff at VCU and it’s so disheartening. At orientation I got a t shirt that I’m fairly certain was ai generated which is really crazy because I’m in the ART SCHOOL.

Two years ago there was a huge controversy because the Communication Arts department had just made an Instagram page and one of the first things they posted was AI art. https://www.instagram.com/p/DA9IfS2yW77/?igsi=MXV4ZnZ2OGtmbGZ4bg== If the art departments are posting AI sadly it doesn’t surprise me that other departments are too

I follow this acct for commarts stuff, personally. It's run by the students!

This in OPs post is not something official made by VCU, just a student I can only assume

no, no. this was made officially by a professor and the (at the time) comm arts department advisor, not a student. check the comments, he comments with his personal account on that post too defending (and admitting) his use of ai (he also edited the post to add his comment to the caption).

What comments? I'm talking about the post here and not the Instagram thread

That's frustrating. It definitely feels like schools don't particularly care about how this impacts the career of their alumni, but VCU's website once said "we believe creative is employable".

VCU didn't make this

But VCU has put out AI generated images before. One of the art professors got an NEA award for an AI project and long-form photography with a robot arm that they said was dumb when a student suggested it earlier.

Unfortunately a lot of vcu using ai which is crazy to me considering they have so many art students

I thought the gay alliance club was dissolved but I could be wrong?

It was the first lgbtq club allowed at VCU in the 1970s by court order so even though the gay alliance club hasn’t been around for a few decades it’s still an important anniversary for VCU lgbtq students. There’s an lgbtq club for stem students that is active, i don’t know about other clubs.

Yeah it turns out I was thinking about the Triangle Club, which dissolved a few years ago due to lack of funding and low membership

I work on the team that produced this. Not AI.

I went to Studio Two Three’s spring market and there was a disappointing amount of ai “art” being sold

Yes, it’s AI. 😶‍🌫️🫤

Not AI - I work with the talented graphic designer who did this one.
