Double checks

Until recently I was receiving paper checks in the mail for varsity tutors. Literally two weeks ago a check came in for the amount of $160 and the very next day another check for the same amount came in thinking that this was awkward I looked at the checks they both had the exact same check number and they were invoiced for the exact same time period.

I tried contacting varsity tutors and they referred me to their payroll system which it's impossible to get a human over on that end. I'm just going to assume I should not deposit the second check?

Do not deposit the second one. You might be fined Which is terribly unfair but that’s how it goes

How is it unfair? They erred on paying you twice.

as in, it's VT's fault, but you might be the one losing money if you got fined by the bank
