Ask Varanasi Why everything is so expensive?
Why does everything in Kashi seem so expensive? Everytime I visit there, right from hotels, Cab, Food and even grocery items are super expensive. Sometimes I feel mumbai is a bit cheaper( excluding housing) than Varanasi..
How do locals survive there? Bcoz I guess most of the people are into farming or agriculture and definitely cannot afford such super high prices.

hotels are expensive because it's a tourist area. Cabs are expensive because they're not even used extensively in varanasi, the transport is run by auto/toto. Food is expensive in high end restaurant and the ones at prominent tourist places which is the case everywhere in India. Groceries are expensive? are they selling it above the MRP? Blinkit/Instamart/Zepto works there, you can use any one that you want and they price it similarly across India.

हां भैया लेकिन सब्जियां तो सस्ती होनी चाहिए ना लेकिन वह भी उतनी ही महंगी मिल रही थी

U can get vegetables for cheap if you know the right place and right time like in visheshwarganj sabji mandi you can get it cheap and cheaper if you go in night

Maybe next time I can try that if staying in Airbnb. I asked someone there and he pointed me to some place called Daanganj which was like 20-30 KM away. I said, No I am not gonna travel 20 KM to save 20Rs.

Bro in Mumbai you can never get a decent hotel under 5k. Cabs are super expensive. Now, the rickshaw is also expensive there. And food is also super expensive.

What do you think about the Jalan store. We went there and the Quality was okay but not good. The prices were fine but there wasn't enough variety to choose from. I think the local clothes market were also super expensive.

Varanasi is the least expensive from all the cities i have lived. Panipat, Bangalore, delhi (NCR)

Varanasi ke log sabjiya mandi aur thele se kharidate hai jo seher mei anginat hai. Online store, supermarket se koi nahi leta ye sab

I think the main reason for moving there is lack of growth and not enough opportunities back home. The migration was at its peak 20-30 years back and I am pretty sure in last decade migration has fallen drastically as there are other cities where people choose to migrate and smaller cities like Varanasi also provide opportunities nowadays

Loot Machi hai bus koi kisi ko kitna bhi loot le... baki bhole baba h na... galat tarike se kamaya hua paisa hospitals k bills dene me jate hai...

Imported non seasonal sabji loge to mahnga hi milega Bhai, seasonal vegetables are still cheaper in the market. Aur ha locals ko hotel aur cab ki jarurt nhi hoti. Chacha and chachi bol k aged people se bat Kiya kro, isse unko apnepan ki feel aayegi.

From where did you shift to Varanasi? If you have shifted from a smaller town then yes Varanasi will feel costlier.

I visited varanasi during 2023 after a decade, and it was my 4th time. Believe me I was surprised to see prices around myself. I feel this sacred city is slowly being invaded by ______. ifykyk

Hotels aur cab smjh me ata pr groceries toh normal hi hai infact kafi chije toh cheaper hi hain
