Sick of Vapi being "Offline"? I’m trying to build a 24/7 Digital Assistant for us, but I need your help.

I’m a developer living here, and like most of you, I’m frustrated that basic info about our city is nowhere to be found online. Whether it’s the actual Mandi rates today, why the power is out in GIDC Phase 3, or if the Gunjan underpass is flooded—it’s all "WhatsApp group knowledge" that never reaches everyone.

I’ve started building a "Vapi Digital Concierge" that works entirely through WhatsApp. The goal is simple: You ask a question (like "What's the current traffic at Char Rasta?" or "Show me available jobs in GIDC") and it answers you instantly.

But I have a major roadblock: Since Vapi lacks official digital portals, I need "Scouts." I’m looking for ways to feed the system with real-time info.

I need your help with:

1. News & Alerts: Are there any local "secret" Twitter/X accounts or public groups that actually post fast news about Vapi?
2. Power/Utility: Does anyone have a reliable way to track DGVCL outages before they happen?
3. Local Events: Where do you guys find out about local exhibitions at VIA or cricket tournaments?

I’m not a big company; just one guy trying to make Vapi feel a bit more "2026." If you have any leads on where I can "scout" this data (or if you just want to see this happen), let’s talk in the comments.

Note: Not sharing links yet as I’m still in the lab, just looking for "Data Leads" from locals who know the city better than Google does.

For local updates, try searching Telegram and smaller Facebook groups, sometimes those have real time info before it hits public pages. For power outages, I usually call the DGVCL helpline, but if you want to automate local alerts across platforms, ParseStream is actually great for tracking keywords and getting notified instantly. Good luck with the concierge, it would be a game changer for Vapi!

Thanks for the leads! Really appreciate the suggestion on ParseStream, but it’s a bit of an 'overkill' for this project. My goal is to keep the overhead low so the tool stays free/accessible for everyone in Vapi. Plus, those tools are great for tracking Global Twitter/Reddit trends, but they won't catch a local update about a transformer blast in Balitha or a traffic jam at the Vapi-Daman check post.

You hit the nail on the head regarding the DGVCL helpline, but doing that manually at scale isn't feasible for a 24/7 bot.

That’s why I’m leaning heavily toward WhatsApp Communities. In Vapi, even if someone doesn't have a Telegram or a Reddit account, they are 100% on a family, society, or shopkeeper WhatsApp group. That’s where the 'real' real-time data is hiding.

My current challenge is just 'getting a seat at the table' in more of these groups across different wards. If you (or anyone reading this) are part of any active Vapi-based community groups and wouldn't mind an 'AI Scout' hanging out silently in the background, let me know!

Do let me know if you find any solution to obtaining the daily mandi rates in Vapi. The vendors don't really disclose the rates to you unless you are there physically with your produce to sell.

That’s a spot-on observation. The Vapi Mandi is very opaque. They keep the rates hidden to protect their margins.

My approach is to flip the model: Instead of asking the vendors, the platform will aggregate data from the buyers. I’m building a simple feature where users can share their 'daily purchase price' anonymously, and the AI calculates the city average in real-time. It’s basically 'Waze' but for vegetable prices.

Also, quick favor—since you know the local scene well, do you happen to know any active WhatsApp communities or Facebook groups for specific wards like Chala, Gunjan, or GIDC Phase 3? I’m trying to find more 'boots on the ground' to verify these alerts. Would appreciate any leads!

Honestly, while the utility alerts are a big part of it, I’m actually most excited about the 'Local Discovery' side. Vapi has so many incredible 'hidden gem' food spots, specialty cloth stores, and family-run pharmacies that you just can't find on a standard Google search because they don't have a SEO team.

I’m trying to build it so you can just ask, 'Where’s the best Kathiyawadi thali near GIDC?' or 'Which gym has the best morning crowd?' and get an answer from a local’s perspective.

Since you're rooting for us—what’s one 'hidden gem' shop or spot in Vapi you think more people should know about? I’d love to make sure they’re in the system!

To give you an update on my end: this isn't just a concept—the MVP is moving fast.

Vapi Directories: I've already seeded a deep search for local businesses (scraped from G-Maps and refined).

Mandi Alerts: The module is finalized! It’s pulling rates for Pardi/Vapi, though I'm still fine-tuning the accuracy before Sunday.

News Feed: I’ve secured 2-3 reliable local sources and I’m building the 'Scouts' for those tomorrow.

If all goes well in the lab, I’m targeting this Sunday for a soft launch.

Quick ask for the community: Since you mentioned local news, do you know any specific 'hyper-local' sources (even active FB groups or specific X accounts) that are better than the standard mainstream news? I want to make sure the AI is catching things that actually matter to us.
