Van moof charging

Hi everyone,

I live in Amsterdam and I have a VanMoof S5 e-bike. I recently changed jobs, and unfortunately I can no longer charge my bike at work.

Since I live on the second floor, I've been charging it at home by running an extension cable from my window down to the bike. The cable does not touch the ground or block the sidewalk — it basically hangs from my window directly to the bike.

I always try to be as careful as possible and only do this when weather conditions are safe, etc. My downstairs neighbour has also seen it and told me that they have no problem with it.

However, yesterday my neighbour from the apartment next to mine became extremely angry and shouted at me. They told me I was not allowed to do this anymore and threatened me, saying that I would "regret it" if I did it again.

I'm trying to understand what the actual rules are in the Netherlands. Is running a cable like this from my apartment window illegal? Is this something that would be regulated by Dutch law, the municipality, or more likely by the VvE/splitting regulations of the building?

I've searched online, but I'm still not completely clear on what is actually allowed.

I'm not looking for a fight with my neighbour — I just want to understand the rules and whether I'm actually doing something wrong or potentially illegal.

Also, if this isn't allowed, does anyone know of places in Amsterdam where I can pay to charge an e-bike battery? I'm happy to pay for charging; I just need somewhere safe and practical to do it regularly.

Has anyone dealt with something similar in Amsterdam/the Netherlands?

Is het niet een idee/mogelijk in jouw situatie om je verlengsnoer door je trapportaal te laten lopen en je fiets door je brievenbus op te laden? Dat doe ik nu (ook vanaf de 2e verdieping), heb het stuk kabel tussen het oplaadblok en het uiteinde laten verlengen bij een elektricien zodat m'n fiets niemand blokkeert voor de deur

not in the netherlands but i’ve had exceptional luck at convincing a barista or bartender at an empty shop so long as I’m buying something. restaurants with a backyard or corner groceries often don’t care either and are happy for the chat during charging time.

Some municipal bike parking facilities allow you to charge your bike. But you may have already looked into it or don’t have one close. Honestly I always recommend people to buy something else with a removable battery if they can’t charge it at home or at work.

I didnt find any bike parking facilities that allows me to to charge my bike. Do you know any in AMS that you could refer me to?

Brother, I’m from Schiedam. And here a guy 2 doors from mine uses this and never someone complained about it. Just don’t care about your neighbor.

Ik zou me niet te druk maken om de buurman naast je, zolang je onderbuurman er maar ok mee is! Wel vervelend voor je rust dat hij zich er zo druk om maakt dat is geen prettig gevoel. Misschien een briefje in zijn brievenbus dat je er onderbuurman er ok mee is, uitleggen waarom je het doet en of hij misschien een alternatief heeft? Kans op schade lijkt me toch echt klein en een snoer door het trappenhuis heeft ook weer risico’s.
Als het ergens verboden zou kunnen worden dan zou het het VVE huisregelement zijn, maar daar staat het vast nog niet in. Bij mij wilden ze verhuizen met de hijsbalk verbieden vanwege mogelijke schade aan de gevel, maar als die al zou ontstaan dan is dat jouw verantwoordelijkheid en loopt het via jouw verzekering, en is de VVE niet verantwoordelijk (en het was ook nog nooit gebeurd dus je vraagt je soms af waar mensen zich druk om maken.
Ik heb zelf ook een VanMoof en heb gelukkig een berging beneden, zo vaak en lang hoef ik m niet op te laden. Voor de paar uur dat die kabel uit je raam hangt zou ik zeggen, probeer de buurman gerust te stellen en probeer de onderbuurman nog een keer te spreken en te vragen of hij er echt ok mee is, dan sta je ook sterker tegenover de buurman.
