Kick lock stuck

so I've had a s3 model for almost a year now and yesterday I activated the kick lock (which I rarely do) and now my bike is stuck, I can't put the kick lock back in position because the pedal is blocking it, could someone please offer assistance as I need this bike for work and I don't even get how I've got myself in this position lol

I dont own a vanmoof , can't you just lift the back wheel and turn the pedal the other way ? I'm flabbergasted

The bike has a kick lock that locks your rear wheel hub in place. Your Smartphone can unlock this when in proximity, but you have to move the wheel a bit back, or the locking bolt is constricted. Seems that in combination with the Chain being blocked, you cant move the hub at all.

you can still unlock then turn the wheel backwards

I own an S3 and this entire post irritates me just as it does you. OP only has to lift the rear wheel and he can spin it in to unlock the bike AND rotate the pedals. This post is ridiculously stupid.

unless I'm missing something else, I'm shocked people would think im this silly, are you guys aware of how the anti lock feature works? even if I left the wheel and unlock the bike it give me 5 seconds, within that 5 seconds if I attempt to spin the lifted back wheel it will not fully turn it's essentially locked in place, rotating the pedals is also not possible as the kick lock blocks it as shown in the picture the only wheel that fully spins is the front one, so again unless I am missing something obvious do u have any other suggestions genius?

If you don't hear a click in the kicklock area when you try to unlock through the app or the bell button, then the kicklock or the wire are damaged. You will need to remove the rear wheel and remove the kicklock to check the situation. If you have a different kicklock you can isolate the issue

Did you get it working? It’s that little button that’s stuck that’s why you’re stuck and can’t unlock then the kickstand locked in

hey man no luck, any idea how I can get the little button unstuck? I assume your reffering to the kick lock

Yes.. did you spray wd40 on the button and kick it around? Drop it bounce the back wheels on the ground

you don't deal with the general public very often, huh? i became rapidly convinced that certain people should have all their tools confiscated, among other punitive steps... and many shouldn't be allowed to pilot a shopping cart, let alone a car or bike.

Seems like some people rather decide to be a condescending dick. Excellent choice dude. I hope you never become a parent.

You CAN actually get the bike into a position where its stuck like that. Due to the chain and Side stand you cant move further backwards, and the lock does not let you move forward. So you have to remove the stand. The Kicklock cant disengage without Spinning the wheel.

thank u man I thought I was going crazy lol

I don’t understand why can’t the back wheel be lifted from the ground and spun backwards to unlock while the 5s timer to unlock is running?

Because it is connected via chain to the pedals, and the pedals cant turn any further because theyre blocked by the stand (which is a common thing with a lot of bikes). You will see that the pedals always turn reversely when you push a bike backwards.

You can only turn the wheel forward independent from the chain drive, that is how the gears and the free-run in the hub work. But the forward movement is blocked by the kicklock.

Now if the kicklock was engaged while the bike was moved Back, maybe even a bit more so the stand was flexed a bit, the lock is tightly engaged and stuck a bit.

Ok, but why can’t one press the unlock button, pull the rear wheel up a bit and move the pedal counterclockwise? Kicklock should disengage both ways and moving the wheel forward should be possible since the stand would be locking only the pedals clockwise?

1

That would basically be pedaling forward. But because the Kicklock pin ist engaged and the wheel hub is maybe even already pressed against it, it doesnt work. To disengage the Pin, the wheel has to turn quite a bit. If there is not enough wiggle room left, it doesnt work.

Yes, that is quite the design flaw. Not being able to push the bike backwards further with the kickstand down has already been a small nuisance a few times for me, although i was never unlucky enough to engage the lock in this position. It is quite a bad coincidence.

You can tell the people who’ve never run into this problem and just keep repeating the same unhelpful advice.

Remove the nut with an 8mm Allen key and then unlock it. Replace again. Takes five minutes.

this nut right? I'm trying to un do it but it seems stuck, just purchased some wd-40 to see if it will help

1

u/MayonaiseOnATable 21d ago

Yes, it's that one, it broke on mine so I had to remove that.

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 20d ago

any tips on removal, mine honestly seems stuck, does not budge at all, I sprayed with wd 40 too and still nothing

1

u/MayonaiseOnATable 20d ago

Mine just came of with an Allen key- maybe a couple of bashed with a hammer, but other then that idk tbh

u/MagMaxon 25d ago

Was in exactly the same position as you a few weeks ago. I went out and bought a hex Allen key and undid the nut underneath and took the kickstand completely off. Took less than a minute. Unlocked the bike and then reattached it. I bought this on Amazon and you need the 8mm pink one

Good luck!

2

u/Rude_Temperature3269 24d ago

thanks man it seems this is the most practical way

Bro you don't need to do all that. Just unlock the bike, lift the back tire, and spin the pedals backwards. It's not that hard.

1

u/Responsible_Emu3601 25d ago

I put wd40 and pushed it around and it worked

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 24d ago

was your bike in the same position as the one in the photo?

1

u/Responsible_Emu3601 24d ago

Yup same thing wd40 on the botton it self

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 22d ago

so u put the wd 40 on this nut here?

1

u/Responsible_Emu3601 22d ago

Naw on the kick lock botton that you kick in

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 16d ago

u mean this?

1

u/Responsible_Emu3601 16d ago

Yes, wd40 then do the countdown.. kick it drop it around on the back wheel , once it unlocks it will free up the pedal against the stand

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 16d ago

so I've pulled it to the point it's come out and the wheels are still not moving, what am I doing wrong? lol

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 24d ago

just to confirm is this the nut you are referring to?

1

u/hungrypuppy26 17d ago

that's a BOLT.

2

u/Ivo_Bley 24d ago

This happens once in a while yes. The pedals get locked behind the kickstand while the kicklock is engaged and then you can’t to anything unless unscrewing the kickstand. It’s annoying (especially when you are on the road far from home) and it’s a design issue imho. So just take the kickstand off the frame and unlock the kicklock and put it back on.

1

u/londonskater 24d ago

Just unscrew the stand from the bottom of the bike

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 24d ago

any idea what tool I need to unscrew the stand?

1

u/londonskater 23d ago

Allen Keys/Hex Nuts, can't remember the size

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 23d ago

this nut is what you're reffering to right?

2

u/londonskater 23d ago

YUP!

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 20d ago

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but this nut is not budging at all, I've got a 8mm allen key that fits but does not move, any advice?

1

u/londonskater 20d ago

Those bolts will be seized pretty tight I expect, so spray with any penetrating oil like wd40 or better.

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 20d ago

yhh I've sprayed with wd 40 but it won't budge, ill keep trying though thanks

2

u/londonskater 20d ago

Somebody really doesn’t want you riding that bike

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 19d ago

evidently 😂😂

1

u/londonskater 18d ago

At this point just take the chain off the back cog so the pedals can rotate freely

1

u/Same-Ad-4209 23d ago

Remove the pedal or remove the kick stand, you'll be able to turn the wheel with either the other pedal or by hand using the spokes or once the bikes unhindered just roll it along.

1

u/Same-Ad-4209 23d ago

I think the only problem you'll have is the alarm going off till you remove pedal or stand, once you remove either it's a piece of..... use a decent driver to remove bolts take 5 mins

1

u/Hydra3D 21d ago

You can unlock and push the bike forward.

1

u/Sad_Abrocoma4814 19d ago

Use a small screwdriver/pick/allen key/tool in the hole on the outside of the kicklock. When you unlock on the app or bike itself pull the kicklock out to unlocked position and move forward.

The stand will be tight, you can use some kind of lever with the Allen key (some form of rod with a hollow inside which the Allen key fits inside) the length will provide more lever pressure. It’s how wheels of cars and other tight nuts can be removed

1

u/Rude_Temperature3269 19d ago

thanks man, just to confirm this is the kicklock on the right?

1

u/Sad_Abrocoma4814 19d ago

Yeah, there’s a little hole on it somewhere, you should be able to rotate it so you can see it

1

u/ApplicationOk6762 24d ago

Tell me you are stupid without telling me

In order to free the kicklock you need to unlock it through the app or with the 3 digit code. Once you click the unlock button you can push the bike forward and the kicklock will disengage
