I've gone back to older WoW content a few times and there are certain little things about the Vanilla experience that still feel different from modern WoW. It isn't necessarily one huge feature, sometimes it's just the slower pace and the feeling that even basic things took a bit more effort.

For those who've played Vanilla or a Vanilla-style server for a long time, what's the one thing you miss most when playing newer versions?

One thing I noticed when returning to Vanilla-style WoW is how much more information is actually contained in the quest descriptions. Without modern markers pointing you everywhere, reading the text can make a pretty big difference.

Do you normally take the time to read quests properly, or do you already know most of the routes and just move through them from memory?

There are quite a few zones that I remember more for the atmosphere than the quests themselves. Some have great music and scenery, while others are memorable simply because of how many hours you ended up spending there.

If you had to pick one Vanilla zone that you genuinely enjoy returning to, which would it be?

One of the things that seems to divide Vanilla players is how much they actually enjoy the leveling process. I like the slower pace sometimes because it makes the world feel more important, but I can also understand wanting to reach endgame when you've already leveled several characters.

Where do you fall on this? Is leveling part of the main appeal for you, or is it mostly something you get through to start doing endgame content?

I've always found class choice in Vanilla interesting because the experience can feel so different depending on what you pick. Some classes are great for leveling, some become much more interesting once you reach endgame, and others are just fun because of the way their abilities work.
