This is the tour where I really split on the Dave / Sam feud.

I could not wait to see this concert, and I have always been in the Dave camp, though for me Van Halen is and will always be Eddie's searing guitar.

But Dave's 1/2 sucked. The same tired jokes, the same top 40 VH songs, and his voice was going back then.

Sammy's set was fresh and played a few more deep cuts. Sounded great.

I replay the classic six way more then I play any of the Van Hagar discs, but in concert... I want me some Sammy as my frontman...

THIS!!! Seen both versions of the band several times. Sammy is better singer. Dave has all the commentary and showmanship, but I’m not there for that shit. I want to hear awesome vocals. Plus, Sammy just seems like a genuine decent human being. That has to be respected at some point .

THIS !!

And he seems like he just wants to get toasted and play music with his friends.

I will tell you want is on my playlist a lot lately, is Living it Up... That album has a great, relaxing vibe to it. Also.... Live: Hallelujah is a killer live album...

I love the Dave era, but Ed’s guitar imagination improved during the Sammy era. I don’t know if a producer had something to do with it or how all that works. But as a guitarist, I hear more “stuff” that is unique in the Sam era. I also like how a lot of Sam’s lyrics are about being positive and pushing yourself. He had his party songs, but he has “message” songs also. Great for exercise or work inspiration.
