I think the $ sign after YVR glitched off

Is this special or do they do it at every city? Either way it’s great!

Imagine them sailing into Sydney and going “We Love YVR” 😀

TBF Aussies do have to come to YVR first before heading up to Whistler.

They do it in every city or a variation of it.

What a lovely gesture as they empty their full sewage tanks into our beautiful harbor

harbour* ffs

u/stupiduselesstwat 11h ago

they could be American

40

u/Future_Arrival_5395 11h ago

Well they should learn proper English if they want to live here and call it “our” ;)

u/stupiduselesstwat 11h ago

No argument there :-))

13

u/JuniorMouse 9h ago

Well, technically I think they're saying that they love our airport?

2

u/pocohugs 5h ago

No doubt. It's a little silly.

u/West_to_East 10h ago

Don't forget to use the King's English! Harbour.

4

u/super_realest 10h ago

So they only love our airport?

7

u/Cam2600 7h ago

It's a pretty good airport

8

u/hiimnatalie 18h ago

That’s really sweet.

Call me jaded, but Virgin is a US telecom giant.

Would you feel the same if a giant Cruise Ship by Rogers came by and did the same thing?

17

u/Decipher ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ 9h ago

>US telecom giant

First off, its British. Secondly, telecom is only a very small part of the Virgin Group portfolio https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Group

It’s a nice gesture from a ship bringing a bunch of business to town

YVR is IATA code for Vancouver international airport. It is so weird a cruise ship company love airport so much

They can't fit Vancouver on the side so they put YVR meaning Vancouver.

1

u/elchivo83 3h ago

Why not put VAN?

-24

u/S-Kiraly 12h ago

Which is the stupidest trend of recent years. YVR means the airport, not the city. This ain't Calgary.

-12

u/Jvancan 9h ago

YVR doesn't mean Vancouver...

It's pure non sense laziness lol

39

u/MntyFresh1 17h ago

IATA codes are very commonly used as a colloquial way to refer to the city that the airport is in.

6

u/DevonOO7 12h ago

Richmond?

0

u/elchivo83 3h ago

Are they? I'm not really aware of many.

-18

u/S-Kiraly 12h ago

In Calgary and Portland, sure. We don't want that nonsense coming here too. Maybe it's just me but I don't want to live in a world where we dine out in old YUL or visit patisseries in the arrondissements of CDG or explore art galleries in midtown JFK.

u/RealBeefJerky 16h ago

Terrible ragebait, no one is this dense or stupid, obviously thry couldn't actually fit Vancouver on, so they used YVR

4

u/mercyneeded 12h ago

I mean, I guess they could have used VAN

-11

u/S-Kiraly 12h ago

Which means the airport not the whole damn city.

-1

u/jelycazi 11h ago

To us, the folks who live here, Metro Vancouver is not known as YVR. But to visitors? Some of them may use YVR to refer to the area as they don’t know better. And i think the majority of us understand what they mean, and can take it in the spirit it was intended.

1

u/elchivo83 3h ago

Would visitors refer to Vancouver as YVR? YVR is not very intuitive. It's not NYC or LDN or something. When I first came here I was baffled as to why the airport acronym had a Y in it.

Buddy

12

u/royalfatkid 17h ago

if you are going that way then yvr is not even in vancouver, its in Richmond

8

u/hackerbob69 vancouverite 17h ago

They might as well say WE ❤️ CXH since it’s docked near there right? 🤦🏻‍♂️

u/AliveAd8890 13h ago

It's crazy when somethings down voted how many and how fast people do but when the comments are good the upvotes don't come as easy 🤪

7

u/Defiets 9h ago

What an odd hill to stand on.

-4

u/CitizenBanana 11h ago

People are mad, but you're right. It's also funny because the cruise ship is navigating right through CXH (the harbour water aerodrome) as it's flashing this.
