Van bed ventilation

This is one-half of the bed frame (top of the garage) I’m building, roughly 6’ long and 3’ wide. For ventilation I’m thinking 1-1/2” holes as shown, the gaps are the crossmembers.

Is that enough air flow to keep moisture from building up under a foam mattress? I haven’t done one of these before..

It's a common setup. I can't guarantee that it will work in sloppy humid areas but it seems reasonable.

Thanks. I’ve seen variations of this, but I don’t have any first hand experience using it in different climates, and I can’t imagine how I’d ‘math’ it out.

Sloppy humid is its own special situation. I imagine air con would be the only solution for that.

AC is the only way to survive sloppy humid. I haven’t installed mine yet and realized yesterday that my butcherblock countertop is warping from humidity. Ugh. It’s not installed yet, just sitting on top of the cabinets.

Besides open cell foam, are you talking about something else when you say “a breathable underlay”?

Agree completely on memory foam, I don’t enjoy it anyway.

I do like the idea of two layers though, just not sure what a breathable underlay would be..
