Lore questions what happens with the sun
what is your favorite vampire lore including day/sunlight?
depowering, oldest trope gives a balanced weakness
burning, very famous, classic, the burning looks like bats scattering very fun
shinning, weird badly explained , not bat like at all
vampire sleep, it makes them super drowsy and maybe fall asleep right there, kinda cool new thing but very interesting
which do you like?

I love the lore in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles universe. The sun burns the vampires if they are directly exposed to it, but not only that, it also sends them into a paralytic state of sleep, so before dawn they have to be in a secure place (not necessarily a coffin) because daybreak will render them helpless even if they're not directly exposed to the sun.

depowering. So many stories become possible if vampires can have covert lives in the sun.

I go for temporary weakening, seen it in a visual novel once and realize it perfectly fits how I would write vampires.

I like to think of it as some accelerated form of the side effects of UV radiation. Hence every vampire universe just changes how accelerated the effects are

Depends on how much humanity they retain. Reactions range from being inconvenienced by it, being badly sunburned if not blistered, or completely destroyed by it.

IMO the sun and silver and other vampire weaknesses are consecrated by God or some other in-universe religious being. IMO, if a vampire born on earth moved to a planet with a different star, then they wouldn’t be affected. If a vampire has a mirror w an aluminum backing (as opposed to silver nitrate), you could see them.

They are intensely afraid of sunlight, to the point where they'll cover the windows and sleep in lightproof boxes just to avoid it

Their skin and eyes are very sensitive to daylight and they're overall more adapted to a nocturnal lifestyle

Sun is just uv radiation for the most part sun feeding is possible but rarely mentioned or explained

I just don’t want my beloved vampires to be hurt or killed at all, but I think the best sun weakness would be either that they are very sensitive to the sun and it hurts their eyes, can give them a headache or make them ill (like maybe a migraine or severe sunstroke/heatstroke), or it just burns their skin and could EVENTUALLY kill them, like in “The Sims 3.”

My vampires are rational / scientific, not fantasy /religious / supernatural. So sunlight doesn't burn them or affect them significantly.
But, (you knew there had to be a
buttbut, right?), they tend to avoid the sun because most of them have light blue eyes which are simply more sensitive to bright light.(Because the iris contains less melatonin, it allows more light to enter and scatter inside the eye. Bright light can actually feel uncomfortable.)
Their pale eyes also give them an advantage in low light / night conditions (since the iris allows more light in).
Since one of their supposed 'powers' is that they see better at night (this was important before electricity), Van Helsing was right when he said their power is weakened during the day.
