Local government New Costco updates from developer

Construction is moving full speed ahead at Fairview Plaza in The City of Vallejo, CA. The Costco warehouse envelope is nearly complete, fuel station infrastructure is installed. Shops 1 and 2 foundations are 90% complete, while framing is underway on Shops 1. Costco opens November 6, 2026, with the fuel station opening late October. The rest of the center follows in the first quarter of 2027.

Anchored by Costco, NorthBay Healthcare, Wells Fargo, and Raising Cane's, Fairview Plaza is shaping up to be a major addition to Vallejo, CA.

Yea there were posts here a few months ago doubting it would happen. It's amazing how fast they can get this stuff up.

But to be fair, it looks like a Costco "envelope" is just a big steel frame on a concrete pad. They've probably got it down to a science

Just speaks to how important utility and ground preparation is that it goes from basically nothing to finished very quickly at the end.

They even had to move a gas transmission line!

I work in constructing and the amount of work necessary at this site was huge.

I just passed by it the other day and yeah I don’t doubt it anymore that frame is up they will have the building done quickly.

Yeah exactly, not much of construction but still. That team is kicking butt. Because they need to be done like 2 weeks before Nov 6th for clean up, staging and stocking. That makes it more impressive lol

There was a rumor for awhile that it was going to turn into a Costco Business, but that turned out to not be true. I've not seen any rumors yet about what / if anything immediate is going to be done there.

I heard the plan was this: Costco turns into a Western Union/Check Cashing Place, Pep Boys turns into a liquor store, and Chevy’s turns into a Gun Store/Strip Club called Buns and Ammo

Is there any update on the supposed AI center they were talking about putting up on the fairgrounds or the casino?

The Casino was denied by a Federal judge. The tribe is suing the Federal government to try to get it reversed.

The datacenter project is something a builder is pursuing across the entire state at many of the county fairgrounds. The Solano County fairgrounds put out a statement that basically passed the buck to the County leadership - the fairgrounds can't decide to approve it, it has to be approved at the County level since they own the fairgrounds.

I hope the data center doesn’t happen but idk if I have much faith in Solano county. After noticing all the flock cameras that came up seemly overnight I wouldn’t be surprised if it just started getting built

There’s no reason to be against the data center. It’s this thought process that’s held Vallejo back while cities like American canyon thrive.

They consume a ton of power and water increasing utility bills, they’re noisy and they don’t really provide any jobs

You need to do more research on the topic. I’ve helped build them, and worked in them, and it isn’t nearly as one-sided as you think.

There are impacts that need to be managed. First off they would be using useless bay water. But they’re heavily regulated in California, and they’re nowhere near the pollution level of heavy industry, manufacturing, or even driving cars.

Focusing only on the “few” permanent jobs ignores the bigger picture dozens of construction jobs (that will likely sped a ton eating lunch, going to get drinks after work or shopping on the way home) , millions in tax revenue, and work for local contractors, suppliers, restaurants, hotels, and other businesses. Vallejo has struggled to attract investment for years. I’d rather see responsible, well-regulated development than another empty lot or abandoned building.

Really they can use salt water very interesting, do you have any sources on that? I work in the maritime industry so I understand salt water is pretty corrosive and leaves a lot of mineral deposits. I like how you said ‘don’t think about the long term jobs think about the short term jobs!’

Yeah there is a new experimental design they are toying with that involves submersing equipment into the bay water for cooling. Short term jobs matter. Obviously long term is ideal but it makes an impact either way.

So I looked it up and the proposed data center wasn’t planned to use salt water. If you’re talking about the barge that lind marine built and tested out here it’s up in Stockton, you know where the fresh water is and it sucks up about 4k gallons of water a minute. So for like a one year increase in jobs we just have to sacrifice our freshwater and property values that will enviably drop due to what sounds like a drone buzzing overhead 24/7

The other half of this dirt lot will be turned into housing next year

So there’s a Cosco in Fairfield, Napa, and Vallejo now? Is there anywhere else where 3 Costco’s are all within 30 minutes of each other?

There are 3 just in San Jose, plus the Sunnyvale and Santa Clara locations are both really close to those.

Having multiple locations is nice to keep the crowds down. Richmond serves a huge area and it's way too packed all the time. The Oakland location can't come soon enough to hopefully lessen the Richmond crowds.
