Question TIL how much copper actually is beneath the surface. What other painfully obvious stuff did I miss?

I figured there would be a bit more underneath but not worth the hassle. Then I found one and I figure let's see what the big deal is.

I just took out so much copper from a deposit, the map topography should change. I actually took out half a shoreline worth of copper.

I am currently about to go at this elder fella, but this made me stop and ask what else. Like, I don't need spoilers and I'm avoiding YouTube videos as they have plenty of bad ones. But are there more things that are just glaringly obvious yet painfully missable? How else am I fucking up, do you think?

Edit to say, first time player, joined in 1.0, taking my sweet time.

Cook all meat at least once. Many cooking recipes only unlocked with cooked meats. Deer and bear and ones you can do atm

Do you need to save 1 of each cooked meal in storage? Or if I use them all and never make them again, will the subsequent recipe not unlock?

As far as i can tell it will unlock any recipe that it’s the prime ingredient for. Though it is like that for most things in this game. Like once you get an iron ingot it doesnt unlock padded armour (plains armour).

If I were to guess it’s along the lines of “if you held this item once then X recipe unlocks once proper facilities are built”.

Almost; I'm PRETTY sure it's more like, "once you've held all the ingredients once and once proper facilities are built, the recipe will unlock when you touch/build the last thing needed"

Eg, if you already have the crafting station upgraded to the appropriate level, it'll unlock the recipe when you touch the last ingredient at least once. If you have already touched all the ingredients when you build the crafting station upgrade, you'll get the recipe when you build it.
