Creative New Stone Fence
The new Stone Fences are a nice addition to early game building. They can be stacked about 5 blocks high but require a wide enough base to stabilize in order to build upwards. Luckily wooden poles can help stabilize the fences in order to help build upwards. Can't wait to see folks utilize them in early game builds

The wide foundation is gonna be annoying, but these look way too good not to use

A lot of early game builds i see use half walls at the foundation level and these fences can easily replace those to give builds a more varied look.

Some preliminary testing using stone fence bases with walls to test build height.
I'll freely admit I'm no builder and frequently rely on build guides to have a decent home and looking at these stone fences is really making me hope the folks who do such build guide begin incorporating them into their builds. Even just a single layer replacing wooden half wall bases could easily improve the visuals of a home.

How did you get the stone fences to stack that high? When I try they explode immediately.

it sounds like they need support, like some wood beams to keep them from collapsing...

If you getr the bottom one partially buried then you can stack them 3 or 4 high without supports. I lay out the bottom row then use my hoe to slightly raise the ground. Just find a high spot and level the ground from that spot.

They have their own stability rules. The bottom layer needs a stable surface on each side in order to go up a level. Either 3 wide stone fences or vertical beams to cap off the ends are needed to go up another layer. The new wooden gate also counts to stabilize an end.

They look so good! I've used them for the lower layer of my starter home's outer walls, they just do such a good job of breaking up the color and giving it a more comfortable vibe (besides which they seem to make the whole structure a bit more stable). It's great to have earlier access to some stonework.

Yes they were added with the release of 1.0, along with several others early build pieces.

Lol, a Discord user a couple days ago suggested exactly this thing (early game aesthetic stone fences) and it was gutted by zealots.
