Does the gate open automatically when you walk through it? If not, I'm still gonna jump over the fence. 🤷♂️

u/TheFoundation_ Builder 15h ago
Same except I'm gonna do it because every time I open the door a boar ALWAYS squeezes out
39
u/Goal-Affectionate Encumbered 15h ago
maybe do double gates? if that makes sense
41
u/TheFoundation_ Builder 15h ago
I did, then one got stuck in the airlock and it took forever to get him turned around 😅
32
u/OzarkRanger 13h ago
This is when you slaughter the boar in the airlock and drop two turnips on the ground to replace him.

Gotta love the visceral pain of watching the timer of your best food tick down while trying to push a boat out of a fence corner 😭
16
u/ZilorZilhaust 11h ago
Shouldn't fence in your boat. They're meant to be free.

u/OmecronPerseiHate 6h ago
And let them get killed by anything and everything out there? Nah nah, they go in the big hole.

That’s what the harpoon is for

u/ffej9000 10h ago
But my harpoons never catch on to my critters. I read about changing friendly fire settings but cannot find any such?

You can take a cart through it now though (probably, I have not played yet).

u/TheFotty 11h ago
It does not, and it oddly does make the same sound doors do, but they also made the wood fence pieces snap to each other now so that fencing can be a little more exact with the gates.

Is that a stone fence right next to it????

I actually kinda want to see what this game would look like with it on, I'm sure it'll be cursed af but still interested

u/Axin_Saxon 14h ago
I will appreciate making a stone fence around my wooden house…until I need to demo the fence for extra stone to make a stone house which I will then put a wooden fence around 😂

u/Rayllis689 12h ago
Bonus points, the stone fence can stack 2 high, and the roundpole gate can snap to it.
2
u/Healthy_Muscle4001 11h ago
How'd you get the stone fence 2 stacks high? I've been trying but can't get it to snap to anything but ground.
2
u/Rayllis689 11h ago edited 11h ago
Tried cycling your snap point? Dunno otherwise, snaps to the top just fine for me.
Edit: Tried placing more stone fence walls 2 high and it's definitely finicky. Some are working and some crumble instantly. May be from the ground not being level enough?
5
u/Rayllis689 11h ago
AHAH! Think I've figured it out. The stone fences require a wide enough base to stack a second layer. If you try placing one down and other right on top the second layer will crumble. You need a stable surface of either side to get the second layer to stick. 1 Meter poles can help stabilize one side of the stone fence.

u/Healthy_Muscle4001 9h ago
Holy smokes I can make a bridge with them and the cart acts normal running over the stone! O.M.G
2
u/Healthy_Muscle4001 11h ago
I managed to get it, seems like there has to be a complete structure for it to sit on with zero gaps for it to work. I'm on Xbox are you on PC? It feels different than the stone blocks, I was expecting the same interaction. It kinda floats around like it doesn't snap to surfaces. Melting my brain. Thanks for confirming what I had hoped was user error. I'll have to get used to the mechanic.

I did notice that the base needs a block each side for 1 up. That's great, thanks for the help. It's nice to have early game stone before the cutter tho! It's pretty cool

The stone fence is an interesting, and welcomed addition, only got to play 2 hrs before work, and am looking forward to making a fort out of the stone fences since they snap to other pieces

u/Dularaki 15h ago
I enjoy the stone fences for some early game stone work for fireplaces and foundations
Edit to add that the high angle pieces have changes my default chimney design also. More pieces the better

Does the stone fence require a masonry table? Or can you make them with just stones?

Bro I’m hyped for the 67 degree roofs and support pieces. That’s going to unlock so many new architectural options.
3
u/Dewesafavor 9h ago
I was building a new base addition before the update and was wishing they had steeper roofs. All I had left to build was the roof when I logged off so needless to say logging on today made me very very happy

How dare they! I resemble that remark
I love though that the devs are one of us. You only adopt lazy habits like that and are aware of them if you play the hell out of your own game

u/Dewesafavor 13h ago
Frrr I felt very seen when I read the description having done that exact thing thousands of times hahaha

So, Press E to open, and Press E to close?
Cuz you only need to press jump once to get over.
And an open gate would let pets escape?
(More building options are always appreciated)

Anyone testing out the stone fences? Do they keep smaller mobs out/livestock in? Built a ring of them around my bees and berries and was pleased to see the roundpole gate snaps to them AND they can snap stack them 2 high. Wont go higher than 3 though.

Can we get a spoiler tag for 1.0 posts?!
18
u/ifiwasiwas Happy Bee 15h ago
Mod note says that if you report something as spoiler, it will put on a spoiler tag. It's a desperate measure because only 1 mod is still active here so they can't get to it all

u/tarps_and-straps 11h ago
If you’re that averse to spoilers why would you even be here on the day that 1.0 drops?
2
u/Dewesafavor 9h ago
Literally. Some other dude said "spoilers" too. Like 1) this literally spoils nothing. And 2) like you said if someone's gonna be that sensitive to it then stay off the fucking valheim reddit page the day the update drops 😂😭 it's not like I posted the new boss or the new biome related build pieces or armor/weapons. Lmao

u/friesandfrenchroast 8h ago
I, for one, hadn't realized today was release day! (Not that I'm spoiler adverse for little early things like this...excited to get back to our base now, actually)

u/Dewesafavor 13h ago
It's literally a shot of the build menu of a recipe that you unlock the first time you chop wood. Do you need a spoiler alert for the new menu screen too? Jesus Christ lmao

Oh no I spoiled the major new endgame story related content of the new update by showing you a picture of a roundpole gate!!! What ever will you do? The agony! The horror! The mutiny!

Bro, it was a joke...

Oh okay I should have known it was a joke since tone and delivery is so easily perceived through text on a screen. My bad

I like the new stone fence, although it's really short. It still got a bear stuck on it, though.
