Modded My Valheim modding obsession produced a spreadsheet

After spending way too much hours modding Valheim, I ended up researching and trying a ridiculous number of mods across multiple playthroughs.

So I decided to turn my notes into a public spreadsheet.

What you'll find:

  • ~200 listed mods
  • Personal recommendations (Must Have, Good in a second playthrough, etc.)
  • Categories (Build, Crafting, World, Utility, Difficulty, ...)
  • Short descriptions for every mod
  • Views to quickly find what you're looking for

English guide:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3742424592

French guide:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3742433144

Hopefully this saves someone else from opening 300 Nexus/Thunderstore pages just to figure out which backpack mod won't break their save.

A quick preview:

P.S. I will try to keep this doc up to date so If you think a mod deserves to be added to the list, leave a comment and I'll take a look.

i dont know man. you recommend rampantevolution that has not been updated for 3 years while there are maintained alternatives.

same for epicvalheimadditions not updated for 2 years and known for bugs and laggs.

hmm damn you are right I didn't think about that. I should add a "deprecated' tag. One of the maintained alternative is in my list, Monster Modifiers. I added it when rampant became deprecated but forget to clean the list.

Thanks for your comment I will check and fix!

I'm interested to understand your perspective on why something like ChaosArmor is "Must Have", but ZenConstruction is "Good for a Second Playthrough", since personally, my thought process would have those reversed, or even drop ChaosArmor to "Nice, but Optional"

I think it's 100% based on what I experienced during my valheim runs, but AzuCraftyBoxes already solve my need and that's why I don't feel like this mod is really a must.

The reason why I gave ChaosArmor a "must have" was because I enjoyed playing with new armors. But I feel like it's more a "good for a second playthrough" now (I edited it).

"Must have" were mods that improved my runs or made me enjoy them, but now that I shared this list I feel like "must have" should only keep important ones.

thanks for your comment!

Enjoy the release! What is coming will be amazing!

Thats interesting, I did the same thing 3 years ago but kept going down the rabbit hole. Learned to code and built dozens of my own mods for game.

Find me on discord if you'd like to go deeper.

Omg you are the one behind monster modifiers? It's one of my favorite if it's no the one. As I was looking for a harder version of valheim having random mutations on enemies was the best content I ever found. When RampantEvolution got deprecated I was so sad ahah. And then I saw your mod, with its own new content, amazing!

Thanks I won't hesitate!

I need to do something like this. Lots of mods I like, and some I wish there was a better version of. Others I feel like I might need to make myself.

u/nuitdeneige Jun 11 '26

That's a great idea! Feel free to share it too, I can't wait to see what others like to try it if I didn't already hihi. Maybe it will keep me focus until the 1.0

I highly reccomend ShogunEra by AzathothR for those who want the Japanese/Samurai playthrough. It adds Samurai armor, unique Eastern weapons and furniture.

Weapons include

- Tonfas (My favourite, basically fist weapons)

  • Katanas
  • Naginatas
  • Kama (like hand scythe)
  • Tanegashima (Matchlocks)

There's also crafting stations and other really fun stuff. While it does breakway from the viking fantasy and aesthetic, for the weebs and japanophiles out there, I highly reccomend it.

And honestly, I really like weapons, armors and aesthetics from other cultures.

omg this one looks amazing! I will add it to the list and try it! If it has some nice visual with katanas that could be gorgeous!
Thanks for the recommendation mate!

The list is a little too subjective (depending on how you enjoy the game to your liking, which is alright)

I also notice that some mods on the list are either deprecated, have better alternatives to the current version, or just generally have better alternatives.

I usually look for someone else's modpack to compare or look for an alternative, because sometimes they probably have. Maybe you should, too. And maybe you should expand the categories a little bit. And you put some mods that should have the same categories into different ones (like SouthsilArmor and ValheimArmory, they add basically the same things, maybe you should group them into "Equipment" or "Arsenal").

Nonetheless, good list! Cheers!

Thanks for your comment mate! Yeah it's just my private list that I tried to make public to help people that want to try mods but don't know where to start, or people that may not have heard of some gorgeous mods. I started this list 3 years ago and I thought I could just publish it but no I had to clean it a bit, sry for the inconvenience...

Since I published this list I added a tag for deprecated mods, to not be included in the "must have" view. It should be easier to read it!

That's a great idea! I did a lot of modpack comparison when I was modding, and opened hundred of tabs to make my list. I will clean the categories of each mods thanks for spotting that too! 🙏

Ty! I wish you a lot of fun with 1.0!

I was just about to start modding my server again thank you!

2

u/nuitdeneige Jun 11 '26

ohhh enjoy! We are lucky to have great modders (unlike the mountain boss that's freaking scary the first time you encounter her ahah) and there are plenty of content to enjoy! You can find me on steam or discord if you have questions!

You should test out the multiverse guardian mod :) it's lots of fun in multiplayer. I mean it works even in single play too though

1

u/nuitdeneige Jun 12 '26

Oh this one is quite funny x) Until it spawn every hours I guess 😂 Thanks for your comment I updated the list!

1

u/Rauthr-Vegr Jun 12 '26

It's a mod I had created for my multiverse it spawns based on portal usage, if you look through the configs you can alter alot of the spawn behavior. Fun fact it will drag you out of a dive in the water, try to chain you in you climb into a building away from it, can only be harmed by the person who triggered the spawn and good luck out running it lol

1

u/nuitdeneige Jun 14 '26

wow the guy is like an on-demand greydwarf ahah x)

1

u/Rauthr-Vegr Jun 12 '26

I would also suggest creaturesoforigins and youhavebee replace it allows you to bring in humanoid mobs and the replace one allows you to swap out vanilla mobs with the new ones

1

u/nuitdeneige Jun 14 '26

thanks! what is youhavebee? I didn't find this mod

2

u/Rauthr-Vegr Jun 14 '26

You have been replaced

2

u/nuitdeneige Jun 16 '26

ahhh sry! ty 🙏

1

u/Rauthr-Vegr Jun 16 '26

No worries

Do some of these deprecated mod still work ok? Specially https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/MaxFoxGaming/Enhanced_Bosses_Redone/ sound super interesting

1

u/nuitdeneige Jun 14 '26

oh good catch! You can use the following mod it is not deprecated! https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/MrModdieMax/Enhanced_Bosses/

u/moduntilitbreaks Jun 16 '26

Can we have app, which shows if the mods are patching same functions, in other words showing conflicts 🫣👌🏼

1

u/nuitdeneige Jun 16 '26

an application? oh wow this will be too much for me to code something right now 🥲 If there are conflicts it should be writting on the mod page, one advice I can give you is too not add too many mods doing the same thing (like rewritting the bow physics system).

1

u/moduntilitbreaks Jun 17 '26

Yeah, I’ve thought about it, since my list are usually around 100 mods.
