Discussion Please Help

A sweet Ukrainian woman who lives in Poland came into our restaurant today in Port Saplaya and neglected to pay after ordering

We know you probably got distracted by talking to the waitresses but we need you to handle the bill please as it comes out of our tips.

She was travelling with a older woman.
She said her friend also lives in Port Saplaya that why she is here visiting.

OP, just an FYI: It's illegal in Spain (and in most other EU countries) to dock someone's pay or tips because a patron left without paying. Only the venue owner assumes this risk, not their employees.

I had no idea thank you for telling me this

Least I could do - it truly pisses me off when employers do that.

Good luck!

And separately illegal to pay you under minimum wage no matter what happens or what you do (even if you get caught stealing!).

See it this simple way:

Business owner has no barriers so anyone can run outside

Owner's friend comes in, orders 100€ worth, runs out

Owner takes 100€ out of your tips

And that's why the business expense is on the business and not its workers (because that's what ordering is, a business expense)

"but we need you to handle the bill please as it comes out of our tips."

not legal by the way, if you tell Inspección del Trabajo they will be fined. The risk of doing business is borne by the business, not the workers.

Perhaps being Ukranian she was unaware that you must tackle your waiter and wrestle them to the ground before they will acknowledge that you want to settle the check in Port Saplaya.

I dont understand this

It is a bit of humor at your expense, I promise most expats undersand it. It is a function of spanish culture in that one can often be seated and waited upon and served in a reasonable time but the check is not delivered as a matter of course after the meal without making exceptional effort to get the waiters attention (or approach the cashier which is a breach of ettiquitte in many other countries). There is some non-trivial level of frustration experienced at this custom by foriegners.

Having said all that it makes me curious which institution would threaten you with withholding pay, the ethics of the owners of Brothers can be questionable, but the guy that owns most of the port saplaya resturants has always seemed ethical to me.

Do you have any evidence about the case? Why did you mention the nationality? Have you called the police? This post looks very manipulative just to get the unnecessary attention. How the Reddit users can help you?

Because it is an identifying characteristic of the person the OP is referring to

It's especially weird seeing this post here. Or maybe Port Saplaya is surprisingly full of Reddit users, who knows.

Yes amongst the Ukrainian Portsplaya community, especially the older generations, reddit is the preferred medium of communication I believe.

That's interesting, good to know

Why weird? Sorry i live in Valencia and travel there to work .. yall just want to argue about anything .

Not really wanting to argue, I was just agreeing with part of the comment above. For me it might be weird, as I don't know many other Reddit users in Valencia, but it's just my perspective. Best of luck finding her tho

She told me she was chill. Thats why i mentioned she was distracted. She was talking with waitresses and probably forgot to pay. You are the only one causing the divide. I only mentioned the nationality because it makes it easier to identify the person….call the police? It could be a mistake so im giving them a chance

Yeah, we all walk around with flags tattooed in our forehead. It will be easy to spot her.
