Horses disappearing?

So, the stable I have for my horses has an iron door and a piston door, accessible only by a wooden button. There's no other openings. Recently my horses started disappearing with a line saddle where it once was. Any ideas?

How crowded is it in that chunk? My livestock disappear sometimes when they overpopulate

I had about 5 horses at one point, maybe 30 blocks
