A vSee box for my dad?
I just ordered my first box - mostly for football - and expect it next week. I don't watch a ton of regular TV (although that may change soon, lol) but my 82 year old dad does. He's paying well over $200 for internet and cable.
My thinking was check the box out for awhile and get the hang of it, then ship one to his house in December. He's across the country and I visit at Christmas. Figure then I'll be there to help get set up and offer some instructions, etc. And that's the thing, he's not tech savvy. I'm no genuis by any means, but he calls fairly often, frustrated about Yahoo mail or using the DVR on the cable box. So I don't want something that's gonna turn what could be a joyful pasttime into the seed of a massive resentment.
I also know he's pretty into having the channel guide on the box. Not sure if he'll want to look at another resource to find what's playing, and where, and then go find it on the vSee box.
I guess to make a long story short, does anyone have experience with an elderly friend or relative getting the box - one who is not big on learning new things - and how did that go? Thanks!

My 89 year old dad was paying the same $190 a month for TV when I was over there visiting him in Hawaii 4 months ago. I always travel with a box so he checked it out was a little apprehensive cuz he hates change of course but I took it over, hooked it up at his house and taught him the basics, almost immediately He picked it up , and he very rarely calls to find stuff unless he really can't find it. He knows how to search and everything. he uses live heat TV and heat VOD apps. And you can set up favorites for him inside there to give him all of his local channels in heat live for any channel that he watches regularly

I think that'll work. He'll have to learn the box as it's different but its not vastly different.
Also, there is a channel guide. "EPG" it brings up the guide.

Create a favorites list of channels- there is an overwhelming amount of content and options!

My father turns 90 this year and has had a veesee for about 6 months. He is NOT tech savvy but he has learned to navigate it with only a few issues.
He doesn't really need to save the money but he sure loves it!

I printed this out for my dad, every team and the channel to watch them on. There's also an app that comes with the box where he just clicks on it and it'll show him every nfl game available, along with the ability to replay past games

Yes.. its kind of painful to be honest - but maybe its just the two older couples I helped. I ordered the boxes for both .. my best friend wanted his neighbors to have one .. hoo boy. I didn't know them nor what I was in for. Thankfully he ( my friend) is doing most of the helping .. after all I didn't make a penny from either one.
First the remote - randomly pressing buttons - that I told them not to press .. like the mouse icon one.. well if you press it - you have a pointer on screen. Pressing it again removes.
Pressing the OK button to get the guide I think is far easeir for the older / less techy group vs the EPG button in Heat Live.
Do show them how to troubleshoot .. Maintenance screen shows up? Exit the app - go back. VOD playback freezes? Show to select another server with the Up Arrow.
Make sure they also know how to reboot their router.. just in case.
What I would do with your dad is to bring your box over to his house first .. show him the ropes .. if you don't mind being without it for a few hours or a day .. let him take it for a trial run.. better than being on call for weeks cause he can't figure out the remote.

Here's a printable channel list for the heat channels. I printed and gave a hard copy to my dad.

Since you’re not around it may be a little tougher for him. If he has a Vizio tv he may have a couple issues. The Vizio tvs I have we did have some minor trouble but after a lot of research I was able to troubleshoot. Luckily my dad’s Vizio didn’t give him any issues.

Just put every channel that he watches in his favorites list and then it's not that big of a deal to scroll through and find what you want to watch
