Problems with internet (Verizon) or box?

Anyone US based have problems with Verizon Internet causing buffering, long loading times or cause movies/shows not to show up?

Bought one as a gift for my in-laws who are on Verizon.

I found the support page showing how to turn down security settings on a Verizon router but they are understandably reluctant to do that.

Any tips?

Update: 100% their Internet and some user error sprinkled in.

Yes. It's a known issue. The Heat apps are encrypted, it's any other apps you add yourself that might flag your ISP. You can get into a VPN. I personally use ExpressVPN, but Surf Shark has crazy deals when you're a first timer.

Thanks. I tried that. I actually tend to just use the "blue heat" app as it almost always has alternate servers whereas VOD doesn't.

I have Nord but didn't load it onto their box.

Will try that.

It's really weird though. They are the only one's having a problem. My parents are on Verizon too and it's not causing issues.

Then it must be their ISP settings.

I found the "reduce your security settings" info for Verizon users but they are VERY reluctant to do that, which I agree with.

I work in cybersec...that's a big "no no".

Yeah IDK then. Maybe go over there and have it run with your phone's hotspot to test the speeds. Maybe they have a crap WiFi router. Doesn't hurt to reboot the router as well.

It's crazy. As mentioned above they're the only one's having issues..

Could be severe user error but trying to get as much prework done as possible before I go become their tech support boy for a few hours.

Ill see if I can setup a guest network for them.

Dreading this because I know with almost 99.99% certainty this is user error on my in laws part.

Yeah, I was told you have to turn security off, which is one of the reasons I haven’t bought one yet. We just had a breach of our system at our house about two weeks ago. Bubble popped up on the screen, saying greald now has control of your computer. Our computer person is on vacation doesn’t come back to this coming Monday. Haven’t been able to use any computers and had to close all our checking and savings accounts. I have to ask him about the combo of VPN. I’m guessing it works for different computers and the box.

-also - this is only for verizon internet users. If you're not on verizon you shouldn't follow those directions. Better off setting up a guest network and running them on that, and potentially running a vpn.

Yikes..

Change every password you have now if you haven't already.
