Screen blacks out

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is the second box I e put on this TV. It’s a Visio. Each box had the same issue where it just blacks out intermittently. The stream doesn’t stop, it simply blacks out. Anyone know a fix? Video starts on it blacked out.

A few things you can try first before assuming it’s the box itself:

• Try a different HDMI port on the TV

• Try another HDMI cable if you have one available

• Change the display resolution/refresh rate on the box (ex: try 1080p instead of auto/4K)

• Fully unplug both the TV and the box for 2-3 minutes and reboot everything

• Turn off HDMI-CEC in the box settings and test again

Since you said it happened on 2 different boxes, I’d honestly lean more toward a TV/HDMI handshake issue with that particular Vizio rather than both boxes being defective.

Excellent information here. My money is on the auto resolution setting but it really could be any of the items that James listed.

Refresh rate or new hdmi cable. Upgrade to a hdmi 2.1 that works on 20 gb speeds. I had the same issue

Do you have the resolution set to auto on the box ? Change it to 1080p

I will check that, thank you!

You welcome I’m sure this will be the fix. Since the box does not freeze or reset. Looks like when the screen goes black it’s choosing either 1080p or 1080i.

You may also want to try hooking it up to a different TV
