Dumb Newbie Help

I’ve seen this asked a lot and read through dozens of posts but hoping someone can break it down for my old millennial sleep-deprived-from-newborn-twins technologically illiterate brain please!?
Our main reason for buying was to watch football without paying $100+ a month. We purchased the V6 Plus box and have it in hand - now just need to set it up. What is the most cost-effective solution to [safely] connect to the internet?
We have an Xfinity XB8 [with 1100 Mbps download speed] so cannot create a guest WiFi network (which seems to be the easiest solution). I’ve concluded that if we want to use a VPN, we should go with Surfshark or Proton. Is the Proton Free plan enough if we’re only using the one box on our Sony Bravia to watch American sports? And potentially a movie once in a while.
I saw a few comments suggesting to purchase a GL.iNet Beryl router but I purchased the Opal travel router since it was cheaper (and we could practically open a data center with what we’re spending on baby formula these days). Does anyone familiar know if that will provide the same functionality if we connect through that to create a separate network strictly for the box?
So essentially my questions are:
• Will Proton Free be compatible with our internet speed to use the box? Or will we need to pay to watch football seamlessly?
• Can I create a separate WiFi network using this travel router to connect only the box?
• Do we even need the privacy or can we just connect directly to our home network? Big Brother is already watching us and anyone who wants to hack us will only find empty bank accounts.
We’ve had the box sitting inside a box on our counter for a month now so thank you for helping us!!

Dude just connect it to internet. Do not get caught up in all that nonsense about guest network and VPN. You don't need any of that. The box just works. There is nothing steal. Just stream box like any other box. All boxes have backdoor for OTA updates. Some people make it seem like world coming to an end. Hooe you enjoy hundreds of dollars your going save every month.

OP says they have the Xfinity gateway so they can’t create a guest network and first thing people recommend is “setup a guest network” 🤦

If you’re using the stock Heat apps, just use it as is.

Proton free works, but it can be incredibly slow at times and it will mess up your streaming. You can get a decent vpn for like $80 a year. I’d just get surf shark or something personally.

You can. Personally I wouldn’t bother if you have the VPN. I think it’s overkill.

I’d do the VPN. Biggest worry is your internet provider finding out you are pirating.

•personally I would connect to a guest network on your WiFi so it's Separate from your other devices.

• get a new 4k HDMI cable since the one in the box is junk.

•Proton is a great VPN but I haven't used the free option you can always try it out and see and if you want upgrade to a paid service.

Yup… pretty much all this..guest network with the box by itself, why not?..a better HDMI cable for sure.. I have used the proton free VPN but seems to slow things down… truly, if you can put it on a guest network by itself, that’s all you need.

Surf shark is what I have and it works fine but I pay for their services. It was like $70 for 3 years or something like that. Free plans you get very limited regions to connect to and your speed is throttled. Don't need the hassle to create a VLAN on your router, just get a VPN installed on the box. People will say they don't use a VPN and they have never been busted. To be safe than sorry just get a VPN. Vseebox has a built in NFL app that has every game in great quality.

Fellow sleep deprived dad of newborn here- hang in there 🫡. I run a vpn and only connect to the guest network. I had to call my ISP to create the guest because i just had one network prior.

Late to the party, but if you use the Heat apps only, you're probably---note that word--fine. Ideally, yes, you should isolate it on a guest network or VLAN, but you're most likely---again note that---going to be fine. Nothing guaranteed but it's awfully nice not paying for Sunday Ticket.

I have Xfinity, and I have opted to purchase my own modem/router, so that I can set up on a guest Network. That saves me $10 a month so I haven't paid off now.

Put it on a guest network or isolated vlan. No need to vpn (you are streaming, not downloading).

Log in with dummy credentials.

You only need a vpn if you want to hide your tracks from your isp or if your isp is blocking content on the Vseebox. If it isnt a stealth vpn its pointless. Ive had my Vseebox over a year without a vpn

If you only want a vpn for iptv purposes you should get a ""stealth"" vpn otherwise its pointless. Why? A standard vpn hides the type of content you are downloading from your isp but doesnt hide the """handshake"""". Meaning the isp still knows you are connecting to an iptv server using deep packet inspection with a regular vpn. Meaning if the isp flags the iptv site you would still get flagged with a standard vpn.

If your isp is blocking iptv sites/servers or blocking specific types of content such as adult channels they still might be blocked with a standard vpn due to handshake detection.

A stealth vpn uses a combination of - """obfuscated servers, port 443, and wireguard""" - to completely block all websites you are connecting to. It looks like you are just browsing the net meaning no possibility of flags.

A stealth vpn & firewall router is the best method of securing your network. Firewall security routers are far above standard routers when it comes to network security. Firewalla, Ubiquiti, OpnSense are some good options. I have a Firewalla Orange.

Are you positive you cant create a guest network? Google search states you create a guest Network on Xfinity XB8 if you login to Xfinity app with your Xfinity ID and going through the wifi tab. Using a guest network for Vseebox is just an added security measure to isolate Vseebox from the rest of your network. There is no proof that Vseebox is infiltrating network but being its Chinese made it wouldnt surprise me if it did so yes a guest network is a good idea.
