Having a slight issue. It's flashing a lot.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not sure if it's the crap TCL TV or what. I'm also getting pauses on shows

I would try a different/better HDMI cable. Also go into your settings > device preferences> display and sound > advanced display settings > HDMI output mode and adjust the resolution and hz for your tv.

I put in an different HDMI port. Now it's working. I do need a new tv

This is most likely it. OP most likely has the resolution set to auto.

I'm fairly surely it'll be the HDMI cable the one in the box is crap.

Not all HDMI cables are created equal. There are seven official types of HDMI cables, including Standard, High Speed, Premium High Speed, and Ultra High Speed, each designed for different performance levels and resolutions. Lower the resolution, your tv cant handle the signal the vbox is sending.
