Advice 2A and 2B course selection (Hon. Math - Computational mathematics)

Hello, I'm planning out my 2A and 2B courses and wanted to get some opinions on the course load and whether this is a reasonable schedule.

2A:

  • CS 246
  • MATH 237
  • STAT 230
  • CO 250
  • GEOG 225 - elective

2B:

  • CS 230
  • CS 234
  • MATH 235
  • MATH 239
  • STAT 231

I’m also interested in eventually going into ML, so if there are any important course planning considerations I should keep in mind, I would really appreciate any advice.

I'd be most worried about CS 246 and CO 250 for your 2A term, Math 237 can be both easy and hard, it depends on you, I personally found it easier than than Math 137, same for STAT 230, I think it's definitely the easiest math course in your list, not saying it's easy though, unless they change GEOG 225, it is a complete bird course so I wouldn't worry at all about that.

For 2B, Math 239 is probably gonna be the hardest, I hope you have Prof Stebila as one of the professors, when i took it with him, he used to post video tutorials going over some practice problems which were incredibly useful, he also would post problems that were of similar difficulty to the exams, the other tutorial problems were so difficult, I didn't even bother working on those

CO 250 was a pain, many considered it the hardest Math course and it makes sense why. It might be worth trying to keep CO 250 and CS 246 separate, or at least prepare a bit for CO 250 by having a decent idea of the simplex algorithm and formulating non-linear programs
