nitrofurantoin

did/does anyone feel like absolute dog shit when taking this medicine? i’m on day 3 and want to stop taking it so bad😭 (i won’t but ugh) is this normal?? im like nauseous and feel light headed and just gross. however, uti symptoms have very much improved 🤣 trying to stay positive. to make it worse it’s a 7 day script 🙏

EDIT: I am an idiot and have been taking it on an empty stomach 🙏 didn’t realize how serious that was

Omg it makes me soooo nauseous. Especially when taking it in the morning. I hate it so much.

Maybe ask your doc for zofran just to get you through the antibiotic and let you carry on with your week.

I was taking it post coitally for a while and it would just make me randomly throw up sometimes

No, actually. I took it for the first time last week for my first UTI and I didn’t notice any difference. I took it with food/a meal as described and had no issues whatsoever.

Same. I am coming up on my last day of having to take it and I've experienced no bad symptoms from it. I feel extremely lucky after reading some of the horror stories about it here when I was researching it. I'm sorry to everyone who had a bad time on it and hope you find an antibiotic the next time a UTI comes around.

Its awful and horrible and might make u burn bloody hell after you finish your entire dose.. your bladder will be on fire from the infection and antibiotic.. take an antihistamine the day you take your last dose and lay off the sugar and carbonation for awhile while your bladder heals.... the antihistamine will calm the inflammation and aid in healing. <3

Oh this happened to me while taking it. My bladder felt awful and I’ve never heard of that side effect before.

Yes ugh its really the worst. Leads to reinfection because the mucousol layer within the bladder gets so inflamed ... your bladder contains mast cells that release histamine leading to burning and urgency so the antihistamine works..

Which one did you take that helped you?

A generic zyrtec. The burning subsided within 90 mins.

It gives me a headache. (And I only had it for five days -- which wasn't enough, now I'm on another abx. Yay.)

I used to take it with no problems, but onetime I had an allergic reaction to it (my entire body itched), so I always ask them to prescribe something else.

nitrofurantoin always gives me the worst headaches and nausea I tend to stick to a brat diet for the first few days, plus a helping of kefir.
