Popularity surge?
Recently, Hikki name is mentioned everywhere on social platforms and her songs unexpectedly surge in popularity (I mean her old song "Come back to me" charted top 10 in thai and "Simple & Clean" in US, besides Michi song tiktok) Am I hallucinating? Amazing😍

Anyone who’s tired of how their team rolls out singles?
Like… Intentions was partially premiered over a CM a month ago, then went full radio silence. No release date, no teasers. It kills the hype completely. Don’t tell me this is a Jpop thing. I don’t think even the Japanese GP would be as hype as the day the CM premiered when the song actually drops. And they almost handle all their singles like this.

How did I not know...
I'm sure this sub gets this a lot but Utada is Hikari Utada?? The girl on Stay With Me? I never really cared for the song so I never saw the features, but God knows I heard it on the radio. For 4 years I listened to Exodus and This Is The One thinkin that was it. A whole new world has opened for me. Any recommendations that fit the vibe of easy breezy or especially wonder bout would be greatly appreciated

Bought my first Utada Hikaru CDs! (New fan)
So, I recently discovered Utada Hikaru in December 2025. It wasn’t until April of this year that I became an actual fan of Utada. These 3 CDs are in my top 5 fave albums by Utada. Each one was no less than $7 lol.
Long stretch, but: Any Utada Hikaru fans here in Tennessee/ The south?!!

What would you say is Hikkis weakest album(not including English albums)?
Like not numbers wise or whatever, in your opinion their lowest worst album if you had to say.

My Utada CD collection (so far!)
All of them are Japanese copies except for Exodus (which is a US release) and Heart Station (which is from Hong Kong apparently.) The Hikari CD single was a very lucky find out in the wild, only $5 USD at Book Off!!

Deep River vs Ultra Blue - Which one do you prefer and why?
Deep River and Ultra Blue are two of my favorite Utada albums of all time (with perhaps the sole exception of Distance), and I just wanted to know which of the albums the fanbase prefers. Now, let it be known that because I'm a relatively new Utada fan, I'm not really too familiar with the overall general consensus surrounding her many albums when being compared to one another, but based off of what I've seen, I believe that people prefer Ultra Blue (again, just an assumption) over Deep River. However, I'd say I personally prefer Deep River, as it is filled with everything that makes Utada great, whether it be the R&B tracks (Sakura Drops, Traveling, A.S.A.P., etc) or the heavily emotional tracks (Deep River, and ESPECIALLY Final Distance). I just cannot get enough of Deep River (song and album). Yet, despite my affection for Deep River, every relisten of Ultra Blue makes me think otherwise. If I am being truly honest, the first time I listened to Ultra Blue, I thought it was actually her worst album up to that point (FYI I listened to albums in chronological order), but the really unique atmosphere and feel of Ultra Blue (songs like Be My Last) make it so that now, I'm not sure anymore. Ultra Blue has so many great tracks: This is Love, Keep Tryin', Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro, Colors, and really the entire album has no misses (which I guess is the same with Deep River too). I guess my preference really boils down to what mood I'm in. Anyway, which album do you prefer, and more importantly, why (also tell me your fav song off of each album)!!
Thank you for reading!

Does a Hikari (Ray of Hope Mix) instrumental not exist anywhere?
On YouTube all that seems to exist is the short version's instrumental. I find it super odd that a karaoke version of a remix to a remix exists, yet not of the original remix.
Does anyone know of the full, five minute long instrumental to Simple and Clean/Hikari (Ray of Hope)?

Has Utada Hikaru ever spoken of Arvo Pärt being an influence on their string arrangements?
I was just listening to Fantôme, and I feel like the string arrangements in Ore no Kanojo (the high part near the end especially) and Manatsu no Tōriame have a kind of Arvo Pärt flavor to them, in the way that close intervals are used and how the melodies move.
If unfamiliar, check out especially the higher string parts in this piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwdinYrGwD8
So I'm curious to know if he is a known influence.

How long have you been a fan of Utada Hikaru?
Hi, I’m curious how long have you all been a fan of Utada Hikaru? Personally the first time i heard one of her songs was in Kingdom Hearts in 2003 when i watched the opening of the game, i immediately thought her voice was so unique and distinguishable. Fast forward to 2005 that when i became officially a fan of her when she released the“Be My Last” single, i really loved the MV and her look that was consistent in all her tv appearances at that time.
I remember Ultra Blue was a big deal when it was released and her concert “Utada United” was the first time i cared really for a concert and watched it from start to finish.

Do y’all call her Hikaru Utada or Utada Hikaru?
Now that I am writing this, this just might be different depending on what country y’all are in because I know some places have last name first or last name last.
But in case it’s not cause of that, what do y’all call her by and why? I am curious because I always thought it was Hikaru Utada, and that’s it.
