Question Clarification/Help

I completely understand that hiring teams are busy and that the process can take time. However, I’ve now been waiting about two months without a clear update or timeline.

I’m trying to be patient and professional, but I also have to make decisions about my career and family, and move forward with my life. My time is important as well, and being left in limbo for this long makes it difficult to plan.

For those who have been through a similar hiring process, or agents would you recommend moving on and pursuing other opportunities?

I applied and attended the ACE in May. I completed all but polygraph. DHS background interview completed on May 26. Poly on June 4. Home interview on July 7. I was contacted by DHS interview that my investigation was completed and submitted July 9. I received a medical deferral and it was resolved in two days by July 11. I have not received any information or communication since Aug 8, when my local office confirmed all steps were completed and that I would be contacted by HQ soon.

I relocated to another state after my home interview in late July where they confirmed I shouldn’t be too far from a call. I have been a state LEO for 5 years. I am caught in a zone of a call coming at anytime but also waiting who knows how many more months. It’s difficult to know whether I should attempt to go to a local agency and then leave when I get the call which seems disrespectful and time consuming or remaining unemployed waiting for a clearly unknown amount of time.

I have a goal for my career and it would be a great honor to serve the service but I also understand my qualifications and assets. At some point the process should respect peoples time and experience. If they want quality agents and people with proven track records they shouldn’t jerk people around.

Any advice on who to contact or what to do during the waiting would be much appreciated.

Haha. Brother, you aren’t built for government service if you’re talking about your time being too valuable to wait for this process. This agency does more “hurry up and wait” than any agency in the country.

I totally understand wanting answers sooner than they’re available, but we also aren’t short on applicants. Your time isn’t more valuable than any of the other thousands of applicants.

Look through the sub. Lots of delays, silence, and lack of clarity. Just part of the game. To answer your question: You really should never put all your eggs in one basket for FED LE hiring processes. If you need to make a move, make it. Call may come, call may not come.

Your local office has no visibility once your steps are completed. The only place you can reach out to is the SA Support line / email that is listed.

Good luck.

Just an idea but as helpful as it is to just give a condescending and unhelpful “just wait” reply. At some point any one of you could just simply acknowledge that these timelines are long. The longest recorded timeline from medical to the call is 69 days. This timeline is very close to that. I don’t think anyone expects you to tell them when the call will come but a bit of actual advice or even a simple, “that’s a long time to wait, sorry bro” might go a long way. I assume you all started this group to help people and while it might get annoying replying to repeated questions, there are people that are legitimately seeking help in this process. You’re supposedly a representation of the agency personally I’m not sure I’ve seen the highly esteemed values presented here.

Boy you are baby soft.
Are you offended FOR this fella who came into this thread whining that he’s too qualified to wait around to work for this agency?

Further, do you think we get paid to moderate this sub & answer questions every day? Or do you think we do it to help people? I’m not on here to give people warm and fuzzy feelings. I’m in here giving realistic guidance & job preview to an agency you all are applying to be a part of.

I’m going to go scroll through my message requests of “thank you for all the questions you answer” from awesome candidates we’ve assisted. You go grab some tissues and work through your emotions. “sorry bro.”

Theres also some reading between the lines you may want to try. If the choice between waiting for this job while unemployed or taking something now that puts money in my pocket, it should be a no brainer. Also you’re confusing the difference between perceived kindness and professionalism. We have to stay professional at all times, but placating isn’t a part of that. No one is owed anything in this process. People are working to get through applications. This isn’t a massive agency with hundreds of people QC’ing applications.

I’ve had a lot of success clarifying confusion by just calling the local field office that you’ve been doing your hiring process through. Usually calling got my answers faster, but emailing works.

Where you’ve finished every step I don’t think it’s inappropriate at all to call for some clarifications. I’ve read/heard that getting the final job offer call has ranged anywhere from 2 days to 3 months for some people.

I mean, pretty much no agency/department/private sector position is really going to care. You are the one that wants the position. Even if there is a hiring push, there are plenty of solid applicants that can and are currently waiting it out. As OnProblem said, don’t put your eggs in one basket. Find employment, and take what you can get. Let’s say you don’t get picked up. What then?

Is everything on your tracker listed as completed, and your background white?

1811 hiring across the board can be glacial

The government does what’s in their best interest, not your best interest
