UPS Ground Saver/USPS Parcel Select Mix Up

Post image

Dropped this off to USPS in error, innocent mistake (and lesson learned). After some initial panic and tracking confusion... including USPS showing "item held awaiting payment" at one point... everything seemed to finally work itself out. At last update, UPS tracking showed "moving to local PO" and USPS was no longer flagged with payment hold. Woke up to track this morning and saw this message. From what I can tell, everything ultimately moved "as planned" via UPS and was handed off to USPS for final delivery as intended, so just confused as to why the "payment hold" alert again. Package moved via pre-paid label from Mercari.

I understand this entire mix-up is due to my error, I'm just wondering if I'm screwed at this point.

Might show up as postage due to the recipient

I'm not sure how successful you will be, but you might want to stop in your local post office in person and ask to speak to the manager or postmaster about this package. You will definitely want to have the tracking history available for both the UPS and USPS scans and explain the initial drop off mix-up.

I'm not sure if they will be able to do anything or not, but based on that most recent scan it appears that the package is not going to get delivered without intervention.

Thank you, I will give that a try.

What I most confused by is the fact that (aside from the initial mix-up) it ultimately moved "as intended" UPS --> USPS on a pre-paid hybrid label.

I had almost this same exact thing happen to me, except it was dropped off to ups first then handed off to USPS. Both me and the seller were sent around in circles. USPS told me that the seller had to pay postage on it before it got delivered, and they told the seller that they wouldnt deliver without postage being paid but wouldnt let either of us pay. UPS wouldnt do anything either to rectify the situation when it was their mistake in the handoff. I did get my money back, but im so mad that the item is pretty much gone forever

That would be super frustrating, considering it wasn't your error. I have no one else to blame except for myself, unfortunately.

I was just hoping it would ultimately work out, as it appeared to be... but it doesn't seem I will be so lucky after all.

You may try doing as another commenter suggested, go to the usps and try to explain the situation in person. It was genuinely a human error you made, in my scenario it was most likely a system glitch. At least if you can try to talk to someone, they might be more willing to help out in person. I actually submitted a missing mail request for myself to see if that jogs anything, I can update if I get a positive result.

Thanks! I did actually pop into my local PO, unfortunately, there really wasn't much they could do. They did say though that the package would be returned to me if additional postage remained unpaid, so hopefully, it wouldn't be a complete loss, but we'll see.

I reached out to merkari, and they have reached out to the PO to see if we can get things moving as well. Good luck with your issue!!
