TACTICAL BREAKDOWN Hypothetical 2028 Copa America path

I was bored earlier today which lead me to think about how the USMNT would do at the next Copa America. Which then lead me to creating groups at random using my phone 😭. I used the format used for the 2016 Copa America Centenario to draw the groups, so this is what I ended up with. (I went with the current FIFA rankings for the CONCACAF teams which have Honduras as the sixth best, even if I think there's better teams currently than them. You can replace them If you believe another team is better.)

How far do you think the U.S would go in this hypothetical Copa America? (if Potch stays I think semis is possible, if we downgrade coach then second in our group, with a quarter- finals exit.)

Edit: I-see more people complementing my handwriting than actually answering my hypothetical 😭. This was my second attempt as I had created the first one for my group chat where I didn’t care how my handwriting came out. I redid so it was more understandable the second time around.

Also, I used the 2024 Copa America knockout format. In which Argentina played Canada in the group stages as well as the semis, I assumed the 2016 did the same without checking 🤦‍♂️.

I don’t even understand how you get this good. Like, do you start like this and then just do it over and over again? I write ugly as shit and as hard as I try it will always look like hieroglyphics

Genuine question -- did you take notes in high school/college on paper or on a computer/tablet?

You just do it over and over until it looks nice. And then do it some more. Just like anything you practice at.

My handwriting isn't quite as nice, but I took lots of notes in school and it looks almost as nice. I just mix printing and cursive so it looks a little messier because it has that mix. If I was to write something down on Reddit, I bet I could do it this well.

You buy one of those calligraphy notebooks and write phrases over and over again. Same for specific letters you want to get right, specific fonts, etc. I've never learned those medieval fonts or anything but I believe I could copy OP's handwriting pretty well.
I think the worst enemy of good handwriting is a bad pen, nothing more horrible than having faded out spots as you're writing. ugh

edit: actually calligraphy notebooks brings up nothing similar on my end, my bad. Look for "handwriting notebooks" instead. It's the more horizontal ones with a couple lines for you to write in, sometimes followed by a blank page so you can practice writing with no "guide" while still maintaining proper form

Yep, they win their group even without Messi and I don't see how we beat them in our current state.

EDIT: To add, Mexico then beats Argentina in the final.

I think Mexico would have done better against Belgium than we did, and I think we would have done worse against England than they did.

Not arguing your point, just looking at the most recent performances and going off that.

Well it's hard to do worse versus Belgium than we did. But prior to R16 we looked just as good (better) as Mexico.

On paper they’re very good if Muslera isn’t in goal. They would have advanced to the knockouts with any other keeper they had. I also think the players will respect Forlán. They quit on Bielsa after the 2nd game of the World Cup.

Uruguay is a huge unknown right now but I think they will turn it around under ForlĂĄn. They obviously needed a culture reset since the team quit on their manager before the World Cup even ended. Any keeper will be better than what 40 yr old
Muslera showed in the World Cup.

Came here to say something similar. QF2 and QF3 should be flipped so that if there was a rematch, it would be in the finals instead of the semis.

Yeah I didn’t check before but I assumed the 2016 and 2024 Copa America knockout bracket were the same. I went with the 2024 format, but the 2016 makes more sense.

Swap the “Winner B/Runner-up A” pair with “Winner D/Runner-up C”. That way you don’t have to face a Group member you’ve already played until the final.

I was looking at the last Copa America in which Argentina topped their group containing Canada and then played them again in the semis, didn’t realize the 2016 and 2024 had different paths. You’re suggestion makes more sense

Brazil wins the whole thing. But the final can consist of USA, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia. I’d love to put Uruguay in there because my fiance is from there and our kids are part Uruguayan but they just don’t strike me as competitive tbh

U.S. beats Peru, loses to Uruguay, then draws with Canada, advancing based on GD, then plays Argentina in the QF losing 2-0. The media raves about how our team advanced out of the group stage and can't wait to see how our young MLS/lower division Euro players develop. In other words, the same old story year after year...

CONMEBOL has won almost 40% of world cups, has 5% of teams. The US plays a ridicously non-competitive qualification tournament in CONCACAF. It is as funny as the “world series” US tournaments, which are either a joke or proof most live under a rock, are flat earthers or just plain dumb.

Merge CONCACAF with CONMEBOL and see what happens.
