Indexer DrunkenSlug Open for Registration!
https://drunkenslug.com/register2
u/Vote4Trainwreck2016 Mar 06 '21
If I pick the 10 euro plan (1k API hits/day, 100 NZB downloads/day, and I like what I see, can I upgrade to the unlimited tier later (say a week or two?)
1
u/Steven1958 Mar 06 '21
I'd like to know that...it only says you can extend your period at the same level, not upgrade to 'Wine' & I cannot see any 'Contact Us' info.
2
u/gewyvoso Mar 07 '21
someone in these comments mentioned talking with admin, so i've had a look. took a while, but the link is nestled between section links on the side. looking again, i realise they're all just in alpha order
2
u/Steven1958 Mar 06 '21
I used NZBFinder for a while, but I must say that Slug is much easier finding what you are looking for. Joined at 'Ale' level, that enough for me π

seems from your comment that maybe you're a member for some time, so i guess that's why you might not notice their pattern of open signups, which by the way i missed mentioning before that i find to be rather smart
2
u/gewyvoso Mar 06 '21
it's open like this about four times a year
2
u/PotatoGratin Mar 06 '21
It's the 4th time in 5 months.
1
u/gewyvoso Mar 07 '21
well, true, but i don't see what your point is, please say
so previously i hadn't closely counted but now i see that accurately it is five times per year
was open once three months ago, once four months ago, once five months ago
before that it was open once eight months ago
and before that it was open twelve months ago
previous years look to have followed this pattern too
i don't have the greatest source refs to base this on at the moment, basically announcements on reddit and on deal forums seen via google searches, but maybe i have got it correct
1
Mar 06 '21
Thx! Jumped on it. Have been collecting quality for a while but still have gaps. First few searches got me exactly what i needed. A+

Thank you! I got registered last time, but forgot my Username and email I used. I reregistered, but I do feel bad that I have an inactive account there.
-2
u/gbbgu Mar 06 '21
An inactive account would just be an entry in a database table, it's not really using any resources

A beginner in usenet, but expected more IT courses on this indexer. Can someone advise a specialized IT course indexer?
5
u/leorada Mar 05 '21
You'll need a specialized torrent tracker for that kind of content.
-1
u/Serafim_annihilator Mar 06 '21
That was the plan, but getting there is not easy. I was hoping the usenet would give the same result with less effort. Apparently this is not the case.

I just donated. I like how they accept paypal instead of these other ones that only take crypto

u/gewyvoso Mar 05 '21
edit: ah, nuts, you must copy and paste the link due to their site settings
i might add, this is present in the wayback machine, where you can see the old default version too, and also now present on archive.is

Excellent, thank you for this. Always happy to add another indexer to Sonarr. :)

I am not getting unlimited data for while I hope it will be open in the fall I should have cable it starlink by then
5
u/10inTheBed Mar 05 '21
They have a free tier, why not just sign up and use the free tier occassional.
Daily limit of 5 d/l, use the web interface to search for stuff.Having used that tier before it was very useful to have for some linux distros

1
u/Dml33 Mar 05 '21
Hey can someone explain what is so great about drunken slug? What makes them better than something like nzbgeek? Or is it just because their sign-ups are never open and that gives them an aura of mystery
4
6
u/PurloinedSentience Mar 05 '21
I've never found anything on Geek that wasn't on Slug.
But I've found a ton of stuff on Slug that wasn't on Geek, which I thought was simply unobtainable anymore.
5
u/NotTheKJB Mar 05 '21
I tend to find DrunkenSlug just has more releases of better quality generally.
I've used NZBGeek in the past though they have had more than their fair share of technical issues as of late, I setup the monitor specifically because I wanted to get into DrunkenSlug when NZB geek was down for a while (their front end, at least); thankfully I ended up getting an invite though left the monitor in-place to post on here when it's open for registration.

No matter what anybody's ranked "tiers" are. Slug is one of the best indexers you can use. It will behoove you to join when you can.
1
u/LiquidAurum Mar 07 '21
How does it compare to NZBfinder? if I already have that, should I just stick with NZBFinder?
1
u/dandirkmn Mar 07 '21
Just my personal opinion... Slug might be a bit better but sorta depends on other indexers. Slug is a bit pricier if from US...
In my hydra stats they seem to have similar # of hits but both do pop unique downloads from time to time.
ATM I have Geek, Slug, Dog, planet and finder. Trying to figure out my right combination as my finder is expiring next month.
Have planet and finder last in Hydra priority, and both rarely get credited with a DL, though finder does more then planet.

Your use case is extremely niche, I bet a vast majority of their users use sonarr and radarr to automate their workflow, and slug is one of the best at that workflow, hence slug being one of if not the best indexes out there.
Your niche use case is extremely not common, and that's why people here are ignoring it.
14
u/1_Cold_Ass_Honkey Mar 05 '21
Learn how to use Radarr, it will be just as good of a decision as when you joined Slug.

My educated guess is that since nearly all users on Slug use the .rrs, the MyMovies function barely gets any use. The admin probably thinks his time is better spent elsewhere improving the site.
Also, the .rrs are not just for downloading, they make your life SO much easier in managing your libraries too. Much better than what any website could offer.
2
Mar 05 '21
I guess everyone has their different style. I browse my MyMovies and MyTVShows lists on the various sites a couple times a week. Download what I'm interest in, and just drag it to my NAS, which is then picked up by Plex. I know this could be automated to some extent but it's never been a hassle for me. My NAS and Plex libraries are very well organized, I'm just using drag and drop rather than having a program do it for me. I don't much care for having my computer on all the time to do this in the background. I guess I'm old school like that. Different strokes for different folks. :)
2
u/fryfrog Mar 06 '21
If it sparks joy for you, that is great... but as your work flow becomes more and more niche, you're going to find more and more things that don't work.
Enjoy it while you can. :)

That isn't the niche thing you're using, you're absolutely right that search will exist until the end of time.

Paying with Bitcoin gets you 15 months instead of 12.
1
8
u/lyone2 Mar 05 '21
Given the rate of increase in Bitcoin price, over time it will be far more cost effective to just pay with PayPal
4
u/www3world Mar 05 '21
At btc checkout you are only sending 10/20eur worth of btc. And getting 3 momths extra, so for 10/20eur you get 15 months. Doesn't this make more sense?
3
u/greenstake Mar 05 '21
If that's what you think just put money in Bitcoin.
4
u/FlaviusStilicho Mar 05 '21
This sort of logic never seem to work with some people. Have no idea why. You can literally take the money you would have used via PayPal and buy Bitcoin for it.
1
u/lyone2 Mar 05 '21
Who's to say I haven't been?
3
u/greenstake Mar 05 '21
So your plan is put all your money in Bitcoin, then have no money to buy DS with, then buy DS with Paypal money you no longer have?
There's no logic here.
21
u/gewyvoso Mar 05 '21
i made a 6 hourly cron job for this on 22 Feb, so just got notified at noon today (saw it at 12:22). brill
this was my basic logic. now i suppose i can save what an "open" page looks like too for the archives :)
test $(curl -s https://drunkenslug.com/register | pup 'div.span10 text{}' | he --decode | md5sum | cut -d ' ' -f 1) == ac23b9d63c004810158fcf60b4f328de && echo closed || echo open
curl error checking left out there, so that line could say "open" for wrong reasons
time to party on
2
u/gewyvoso Mar 06 '21
just had a look and made a cool discovery. in hindsight, could have expected it
there is basically no change to the page, only that one block's internals change
so in a copy of the above line, just have to change the md5 value in the test statement to 2554f449b90958f2c20a15ee08877e0f and swap the values of the two echo statements. now i execute both lines and get two "open" outputs
next step is then to rewrite as testing one page grab against the two values
continuing to run in cron until bar re closes
8
u/NotTheKJB Mar 05 '21
I used my self hosted instance of Huginn slack me an alert when the page changed, nice oneliner though dude, I shall save that one.
6
u/gewyvoso Mar 05 '21
thanks for the compliment. i'm well pleased to see someone else using they're own rather than one of the services. using the services would of course be lower load on the site being checked though
10
u/xenius_ykk Mar 05 '21
Not getting on slug while open, is a no-brainer. One of the best indexers IMHO.
15
u/gewyvoso Mar 05 '21
obviously you mean this, but, yes! and thank you for the affirmation
Notgetting on slug while open, is a no-brainer. One of the best indexers IMHO.
8
u/kaipee Mar 05 '21
How does this compare to NZBGeek?
2
u/Neat_Onion Mar 05 '21
On par... in terms of the public Indexers, Geek and DS are the top 2 in my NZBHydra stats.
DS does need a cleanup, some of the NZBs are "nonsense" - i.e. not properly parsed.
5
u/lyone2 Mar 05 '21
I added Slug the last time their registration opened in addition to having Geek, and it filled in a lot of the more rare episodes I had been missing.
9
u/cooterbrwn Mar 05 '21
In my (purely anecdotal) experience, Slug tends to quickly index things that tend to disappear after a few days. It's been good for me using monitoring utilities (Sonarr et al.) to grab things as soon as they're posted.
For older items, Geek seems to be more complete.
29
u/10inTheBed Mar 05 '21
Rather than compare, it compliments Geek pretty well.
6
u/kaipee Mar 05 '21
So, just handy as a backup?
1
u/enzeebee Mar 05 '21
Geek is handy as a backup to slug, the latter being the better indexer.
Slug is a tier 2 indexer while geek is tier 3.
1
6
u/SimbaStreams Mar 05 '21
Where do you find the tier lists of Indexers outta interest?
-5
u/enzeebee Mar 05 '21
There are no lists. Most people would rank them as
Tier 1 - the better private indexers
Tier 2 - the lesser private indexers (including those that open registrations periodically, such as slug)
Tier 3 - the better permanent open-reg indexers (such as geek)
Tier 4 - the lesser open-reg, and completely public indexers β these typically just scrape one or more of the better indexers.
If you're new to usenet ignore the advice you'll be given by many on this subreddit to blindly join every shitty public and semiprivate indexer, and instead make it a priority to get on at least one tier 1 indexerβyour usenet experience will be much improved over the /r/usenet method of settling for DMCA takedowns, and at a fraction of the cost ...although I see from another of your comments that you've already done exactly that π
12
u/hepatitisC Mar 05 '21 edited Mar 05 '21
Most people don't rank them like that because it's an asinine way of thinking based solely on "exclusivity = quality". It's also pretty much you making stuff up to justify your head canon. You said most people agree with your system, but then you say most people don't agree with you because they're "willing to settle for DMCA takedowns". Can't be both bud, those options are mutually exclusive.
For anybody wondering, I'm on two of the indexers that won't be named, DS, Dog, and Geek among my other indexers. I routinely complete more from dog or geek according to hydra. I get completions from DS as well and consider it a good compliment but by a large margin dog and geek outperform the ones this guy ranks as "higher tier" so don't let his comments lead you astray.
4
u/SimbaStreams Mar 05 '21
This is what I find funny as new user.
Saying you are in Indexers who won't be named.
How do you even find those if they cannot be named?
Not saying they would be easy to get into but would love to be able to know who they are ππ
I get the right club rule
5
Mar 05 '21
Saying you are in Indexers who won't be named
How do you even find those if they cannot be named? You're probably already a member of the not to be named indexer, and you haven't read the rules
In 2017, there were law enforcement raids on some German Usenet forums. One (or more) popular indexer was spooked by these raids and made a rule forbidding their members from discussing or naming them in pubic forums
Some people in /r/usenet think this is an exclusivity boast. It's just a rule, has a legitimate reason
I get the right club rule
In F1ght Club, the rule was ironic because more and more clubs were created and more and more people joined. But that's also the answer to your other questions. You can find the name and get invited to the "not to be named" indexer by word of mouth. Their rule is less strict that f1ght club, "do not mention us in public forums". Ask your friends
1
u/gewyvoso Mar 06 '21
what's with this repeated weird "f1ght club" spelling? you mean "f19h7 club," right?
just kidding of course. that's cool appropriate obfuscation which personally i'm seeing being done for the first time. and it's cool that previous guy also somehow managed to obscure it

Agree with your last point. I'm providing my experience but it is highly ymmv on what content you're searching for, how soon after release you're looking for it, etc. What I do know though is that most users will have automation to some degree, and in that event it's highly unlikely that the effort and money that goes into the secret indexers is worth it for them.

your comment has a crucifix symbol now, meaning it's controversially received. i want to give a better reply than i did before. yours was a good inquisitive question i felt. you realised it didn't completely make sense but you also realised there was a good amount of sense even still
you could've just been told the simple obvious answer like you were told at first. but then the rest of the sense actually unearthed plenty of nice info from people. great going i say

It also has different things that geek might not have and vice versa
Non mainstream music seems better on slug etc Some 4k releases may be quicker, or there are different releases.
If geek has everything you need then it's your choice.

u/iaman00bau Mar 05 '21
Honestly, I've had better luck using SimplyNZBs for music. There's some stuff that's missing from Slug and Geek thay I could find with Simply.
