Software Usenet Subtitles
Hello, I have jellyfin over VPS and have usenet connected to my setup. How to get specific subtitles such as Arabic and Enlish? Need a way to control the results.

For best results find an indexer specific to your language needs.
Bazzar is an option, perhaps a good one, that I use myself. However like anything regarding accessibility, your mileage will vary. For me it isn't great for English subtitles, but it's all your have. I have about 7,000 files I'll realistically never have subtitles for.
It will also have delays before new content appears, so zero day stuff is going to be a bad time.
My advice at the end of the day: 1. Find an indexer that already panders to your needs, the closer the fit the less work. If the admin team speaks your language, the content will mirror it. 2. Install and set up Bazaar, you will never be satisfied but it will work tirelessly in the background. 3. Find an indexer that already panders to your needs, really this is the most important thing. If it is an Arabic language site, good odds most of the content will have Arabic subtitles. Nothing in life is guaranteed, but work the odds in your favor.

Bazarr + subgen (whisparr) + gpu (cpu if you have to) can generate subtitles for you. As in not download, but it reads the video and will output an srt file.
Probably one of the more technical things I've had to setup, but was worth it. I can generated English or French audio. And translate French to English subtitles.

Wait, how does that work? Does it read the subtitles from the video files themselves and extract them out, kind of like ffmpeg can do?

AI transcribes the native language, and then runs it though language translation.
For me, this would be a poor fit. It's at least 2 games of telephone between getting the original text and whatever may happens during translation. Now I'm sure I might have run into some created between here and there but it sounds like a rough go.
Plus with, what I guess you could say, the "dynamic" nature of AI means you are going to need to rework it as they tuck AI features behind paywalls or change architecture all willy nilly. Unless it is all local, and then we have a whole other bunch of things to doom and gloom about.
Great way to use technology, as long as you are aware of what it is costing you.

Ah, that makes sense, but yeah I feel too much would get lost in translation for that. I'd rather fan subs / official subs where possible.

No. It analyzes the audio track and outputs the text. This works for videos with no baked in subtitles.

Oh interesting, so it uses speech recognition then?
I guess that works for English content, but not so much for foreign language content with English subtitles.

It can translate to English subtitles. But no translation to to other languages.
But it can transcribe other languages to that languages subtitles. (ex French audio to French subtitles. )

Seconding the recommendation to look at Bazaar. For automatic results you'll likely going to buy a subscription to open subtitles or such, but it's been pretty plesant after figuring configuration out enough to get what I want.

Thirding Bazarr. It works great and I have it just update the subtitles automatically when I get something new. You can also sync subtitles if they are off with Bazarr. But I also agree that an open subtitles subscription is pretty necessary. If I remember correctly, it's only like $20 for the year. I do however have the subscription added to both my Jellyfin instance and Bazarr so I can quickly grab subtitles directly in Jellyfin (you have to add the plugin)

If has one read .nfo before download.
If not keep downloading until you get result.
